SWISS NATIONAL DAY IN JAKARTA: A HARMONIOUS BLEND OF CULTURES AND COLLABORATION

Weaving Cultural Harmony and Bilateral Cooperation in a Night of Warm Camaraderie

Swiss National Day is celebrated every August 1st to mark the founding of the Swiss Confederation in 1291 by three Alpine cantons. This year, the Swiss Ambassador to Indonesia, Olivier Zehnder, and Mrs. Frédérique Zehnder-Mérot, celebrated this special occasion on August 1, 2024, at Ayana Midplaza Hotel, Jakarta, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The event not only celebrated Swiss citizens in Indonesia but also commemorated the 73rd anniversary of bilateral relations between Switzerland and Indonesia.

The evening was enlivened with Balinese dance performances by some foreign guests and a rendition of the Indonesian national anthem, "Indonesia Raya." Guests appeared graceful and elegant in business attire and long-sleeved batik, the dress code for the event. Their presence in batik showed respect for Indonesian culture and reflected the cultural harmony between the two countries in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Various distinguished guests attended the Swiss National Day celebration in Jakarta, adding to the evening's vibrancy. Among them was the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, who greeted the guests with his characteristic smile, adding a formal yet warm ambiance to the event. Additionally, several other important figures participated, making the evening a valuable moment filled with friendly interactions.

In his speech, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf), Sandiaga Uno, emphasized the longstanding good relationship between Indonesia and Switzerland, particularly in development, tourism, law, investment, and trade. He highlighted that collaboration in sustainable tourism is a tangible example of the mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries. Since 2018, both nations have been cooperating in the development of sustainable tourism, with a collaborative project with the Lombok Tourism Polytechnic. Minister Sandiaga Uno also expressed his optimism that through celebrations like this, more areas of cooperation will emerge in the future.

The celebration of Swiss National Day in Jakarta was not only a historical commemoration for Switzerland but also a reflection of the harmonious relationship built between Switzerland and Indonesia. With a shared commitment to continue strengthening the partnership, it is hoped that more initiatives benefiting both parties will emerge in the future.
