CONJUNCTION OF DRONES EXHIBITION: WEAVING MEMORY AND MATERIAL AT ISA ART GALLERY
A mesmerizing exploration of rhythm, memory, and materiality that transforms everyday elements into poetic reflections on life and nature
ISA Art Gallery presents an engaging experimental exhibition titled Conjunction of Drones. Taking place at Wisma 46 from September 20 to November 6, 2025, the exhibition unites nine artists with distinct approaches to familiar materials found in everyday life. From thread, hair, plants, and skin to paper, each work reveals how ordinary objects can hold complex stories about the relationship between humans and nature.
Inspired by Sufjan Stevens’ short instrumental piece Conjunction of Drones, the exhibition does not refer to unmanned aircraft but to the musical idea of a “drone” — a sustained, repetitive tone that builds rhythm and resonance. It adopts this concept to explore themes of repetition, persistence, and echoes that linger in memory. Like a continuous hum, these artworks create a reflective space balancing control and release, as well as tradition and contemporary impulses.
One of the participating artists, Audya Amalia, examines thread and hair as symbols of intimacy and identity. Her works trace the connections between the body, time, and personal memory, weaving meaning from fragility. A. Sebastianus presents fiber as a living archive of memories, while Ari Bayuaji transforms ocean plastic waste into woven pieces that express ecological awareness and the ritual of repair.
Dian Mayang portrays intergenerational emotions through textiles that capture the tender bond between mothers and daughters. Jumaadi reinterprets Javanese-Balinese symbols, treating myth as a living, evolving language. Kristoffer Ardeña works with tarpaulin and everyday materials to celebrate transformation, and Sarita Ibnoe uses natural dyes to reflect the delicate nature of color and memory.
Widi Pangestu explores bamboo and plant fibers as bridges connecting the past with the potential of the future, while Samuel Xun experiments with color and form through imaginative manual processes. Despite their varied practices, these nine artists are united by a common thread: the search for meaning and sustainability in daily life.
Conjunction of Drones invites visitors to rediscover the beauty within simple materials that often go unnoticed. In the hands of these artists, fragile organic substances become vessels that transcend time, preserving stories of memory, transformation, and harmony between humanity and nature.
The exhibition is open to the public and free to attend at ISA Art Gallery, offering an opportunity to experience how art can resonate like an endless tone, revealing beauty within the quiet simplicity of everyday existence.
