MUSEUM MACAN PRESENTS KORAKRIT ARUNANONDCHAI’S FIRST SOLO EXHIBITION IN INDONESIA

Delivering an immersive artistic experience, seamlessly blending narrative, emotion, and thought

Museum MACAN is proud to host the first solo exhibition in Indonesia by Thai artist Korakrit Arunanondchai. Titled "Sing Dance Cry Breathe | as their world collides on to the screen," the exhibition runs from November 30, 2024, to April 6, 2025, showcasing Arunanondchai’s distinctive artistic explorations.

A Journey Through Visual and Emotional Storytelling

Korakrit Arunanondchai is known for his compelling storytelling approach. This exhibition features a series of video installations, paintings, and immersive site-specific works. His art explores humanity’s deep-rooted need for stories while reinterpreting narratives that may no longer align with today’s world. By blending elements of animism and science fiction, he creates thought-provoking experiences that evoke emotions tied to loss, fear, and uncertainty.

A key highlight of the exhibition is the symbolism of birds and snakes, commonly found in global mythology. Arunanondchai uses these symbols to examine how humans connect social structures with nature. Through this perspective, he encourages visitors to reflect on the intersection of history, society, and contemporary life.

Immersive Installations That Engage the Senses

The exhibition offers a multi-sensory experience, combining light, sound, and visuals. One of its most striking features is the gallery floor, covered with textured cracked earth, creating a natural contrast to the exhibition’s digital elements. Visitors are advised to wear comfortable footwear to ensure both safety and an optimal experience while exploring the space.

Korakrit Arunanondchai: Redefining Storytelling Through Art

Born in Thailand in 1986, Korakrit Arunanondchai is recognized for his ability to transform storytelling into immersive visual narratives. His works interweave personal experiences with political and historical themes, resulting in profound artistic reflections. Through video and installation, he raises existential questions against the backdrop of today’s global challenges.

Visitor Information and Ticket Access

Admission to this exhibition includes access to other ongoing exhibitions at Museum MACAN, such as "Primate Visions: Macaque Macabre" by Natasha Tontey, commissioned by Audemars Piguet Contemporary, as well as the Children's Art Space. Offering a diverse and immersive artistic experience, this exhibition invites visitors to explore the world of Arunanondchai while reflecting on the connections between storytelling, history, and nature.
