THE 78TH ITALIAN NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATION: COMMEMORATING 75 YEARS OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH INDONESIA

Fostering cultural appreciation and paving the way for enhanced collaboration across various sectors.

The Italian Embassy proudly hosted the Italian Independence Day celebration, on June 7, 2024 in Grandball Room Ayana Midplaza, Jakarta. On the same occasion, it also marked the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Italy, established since 1949. As fellow democratic nations, both countries have forged remarkable relations and cooperation across various fields. Over the past seven decades, Italy and Indonesia have fostered robust diplomatic ties, laying the groundwork for enhanced collaboration in diverse fields. The reception also aimed to highlight Italy's excellence across various sectors, paving the way for fruitful cooperation between the two nations in trade & investment, energy, environment, agriculture, healthcare services, science & technology, defense & security, social development, tourism, culture, education, and more.

Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, M. Herindra, represented the Government of Indonesia at the invitation of the Italian Embassy for this event. According to Wamenhan in his address, the partnership between the two countries has been very successful and has developed in various sectors, including trade, investment, education, culture, and particularly in defense. Cooperation in defense and security has seen significant progress, encompassing defense dialogues, capacity building, and technology transfer.

The event was also attended by Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and several other invited guests.

The relationship between Indonesia and Italy is based on cooperation and mutual respect for shared values such as democracy, rule of law, and human rights.

The celebration also showcased the profound admiration for Italian culture. From the enchanting melodies of "Bella Ciao" & "O Sole Mio" to the allure of luxury automobiles like Maserati & Ferrari, and the delectable Italian cuisine, the richness of Italian culture has captivated hearts and minds worldwide. This event further deepened the understanding and intercultural relations between Italy and Indonesia.

Additionally, the celebration provided a platform to strengthen personal connections among individuals from various nations. Sharing stories, laughter, and collective revelry created enduring memories and forged bonds that transcended cultural and linguistic barriers, fostering strong and sustainable networks.
