GEOPARK NIGHT SPECTA VOL. 7 TO SHOWCASE THE HARMONY OF MUSIC, CULTURE, AND NATURE IN GUNUNGKIDUL

Experience an unforgettable moment where nature, art, and community unite in perfect harmony

The Tourism Office of Gunungkidul Regency is once again set to host one of its most anticipated annual events, the Gunungkidul Geopark Night Specta Vol. 7.0. This two-day celebration will take place on July 18 and 19, 2025, at the Amphitheater Embung Nglanggeran, Patuk, Gunungkidul.

This year’s Geopark Night Specta carries the theme Symphony of the Earth Garden. The event is designed to celebrate the region's geological heritage while raising public awareness about the importance of preserving the geopark. Gunung Sewu, internationally recognized as part of the UNESCO Global Geopark network, is renowned for its unique landscapes, rich biodiversity, and deep-rooted cultural values.

Over the course of two days, visitors can enjoy a wide range of exciting activities. The program includes performances of both traditional and modern arts, Geopark Talk (Ngobar Geopark) featuring young voices discussing geopark-related topics, and a geopark-themed poster competition for junior and senior high school students from across Yogyakarta.

The event also offers a platform for small businesses and local communities to showcase their best products, known as Geoproducts, from the Gunung Sewu region. The Geoproduct and SME exhibition is expected to draw attention while contributing to the local economy.

The highlight of the festival will be the Georkestra performance, blending traditional gamelan music with modern orchestral elements. Several well-known musicians will take part, including Letto, Hasan Aftershine, Paksi Raras, Slamet Man, and Tami Aulia. Adding to the excitement, the event will collaborate with the Nglanggeran Chocolate Festival, which will continue until July 20, 2025, in partnership with the Agriculture and Food Security Office of Yogyakarta.

More than just entertainment, Geopark Night Specta is part of the Gunungkidul government’s broader initiative to promote the geological treasures, biodiversity, and local culture of Gunung Sewu. The Gunung Sewu area spans three regencies: Gunungkidul, Wonogiri, and Pacitan, featuring 33 geosites in total. Among them, the Ancient Volcano of Nglanggeran stands out as a globally recognized icon and source of local pride.

Through this event, organizers hope to inspire greater community participation, especially among younger generations, in protecting the region’s geodiversity and biodiversity. Tourists and local residents are encouraged to mark their calendars. Let’s come together to celebrate the Symphony of the Earth Garden and experience the harmony of nature, culture, and music in Gunungkidul.
