INDONESIA CONCLUDES THE 2025 SEA GAMES ON A HIGH NOTE WITH IMPRESSIVE MEDAL WINS
It marked a celebration of determination and unity, as Indonesian athletes transformed relentless effort into remarkable victories
The 2025 SEA Games officially drew to a close on Saturday, 20 December 2025. Held from 9 December, the largest sporting event in Southeast Asia wrapped up with memorable moments and strong finishes, including notable achievements from the Indonesian contingent in the final stages of competition.
The opening ceremony took place at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, attended by King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida Tidjai. Carrying the theme Green SEA Games, the ceremony unfolded through six segments showcasing the event’s historical journey. Eleven countries took part, with Indonesia entering third in the parade. Led by volleyball athlete Megawati Hangestri and athletics athlete Robi Syianturi, the nation presented 69 athletes from six sports during the procession.
Indonesia fielded a total of 1,021 athletes, competing in 49 of the 51 sports contested. The team set an ambitious goal to finish in the top three and collect at least 80 gold medals. Throughout the competition, their performance reflected strong and consistent efforts.
Triathlon emerged as one of Indonesia’s key sources of gold medals. On Thursday, 18 December, the national triathlon team secured victory in the Mixed Duathlon Team Relay event in Leam Mae Phim, Klaeng District, Rayong, Thailand. The win pushed Indonesia’s gold tally to 76 by early afternoon.
The momentum continued on Friday, 19 December, when triathletes Martina Ayu Pratiwi and Rashif Amila Yaqin added more gold to Indonesia’s medal count. Martina claimed the nation’s 81st gold by winning the women’s individual triathlon event, marking her fifth gold medal of the Games. In total, triathlon contributed seven golds, three silvers, and one bronze, helping Indonesia surpass its target of 80 golds.
As of Friday, 19 December, Indonesia held second place in the provisional medal standings with 91 golds, 11 silvers, and 129 bronzes, positioned just behind host Thailand and slightly ahead of Vietnam.
These achievements mark the 2025 SEA Games as a meaningful milestone for Indonesia, reflecting improved performance, strong team unity, and a proud competitive spirit on the regional sporting stage.
