To celebrate Jakarta’s 498th anniversary, 2Madison Gallery proudly presents an art exhibition titled Our Story in Jakarta. This special event runs from June 19 to July 27, 2025, at 2Madison Gallery, located in Kemang, South Jakarta.

The exhibition is a tribute to Jakarta as a vibrant center of culture, history, and urban life. Through the theme Our Story in Jakarta, visitors are invited to see the city not just as a capital, but as a living space filled with countless stories of hope, resilience, and love that unfold across every street corner.

Throughout the gallery, the essence of Betawi culture is showcased in every detail. Visitors will encounter unique decorations, including a replica of a Betawi house terrace, colorful kembang kelapa ornaments, and classic vintage bicycles that bring the spirit of old Jakarta to life. To complete the atmosphere, the gallery staff wear traditional Betawi attire, adding to the festive celebration of Jakarta’s birthday.

The exhibition features a wide variety of artworks that highlight Jakarta’s identity and Betawi traditions, including batik, ceramics, and paintings. A standout in the collection is the series of Betawi batik pieces created by Ibu Siti Laela, a well-known guardian of traditional Betawi batik from the Terogong area. Her hand-drawn and stamped batik works feature iconic motifs such as ondel-ondel, native Jakarta plants, and other meaningful symbols of Betawi heritage.

Visitors can also explore ceramic art by the Tanah Liat 9 artist collective, whose work reflects the rhythm of urban life, the natural beauty of places like the Thousand Islands, and other signature elements of Jakarta. In addition, a range of paintings by various artists enrich the exhibition, offering diverse interpretations of Jakarta’s vibrant culture and daily life.

All artworks showcased during the exhibition are available for purchase, giving visitors a chance to take home a meaningful piece of Jakarta captured through artistic expression.

Our Story in Jakarta is designed not only as an art showcase but also as a celebration of the rich culture, heritage, and creative spirit that defines the city. The exhibition is open to the public daily from 9 AM to 6 PM, offering a unique opportunity to appreciate art and explore Jakarta’s cultural treasures up close.
