Explore captivating displays of art, history, and architecture that deepen your understanding of culture and the city's identity

Jakarta, the city that never sleeps, always offers a variety of captivating arts and cultural events. For those looking to fill their free time with enriching cultural experiences, there are three fascinating exhibitions that you can visit for free in the capital. These exhibitions not only showcase stunning artworks but also provide valuable insights into history, architecture, and culture that are worth exploring.

1. Bandoeng & Schoemakers – Dia.Lo.Gue Artspace, Kemang

Bandung, known as the "Paris van Java," has a long history in its journey towards becoming a modern city. One of the key figures in the city's development is the Schoemakers brothers, Richard L.A. Schoemaker and Charles Prosper Wolff Schoemaker. Their architectural works not only shaped the face of Bandung but also imbued the city with a unique character.

The exhibition "Bandoeng & Schoemakers" is held to commemorate and deepen the understanding of the life and colonial architectural works that are integral to the history of Bandung. It features various works by Prof. Charles Prosper Wolff Schoemaker and Prof. Richard Leonard Arnold Schoemaker in Bandung between 1913 and 1949. Through this exhibition, visitors can get a closer look at how architecture and the city's history are intricately linked to our lives, from the past to the future. This exhibition opened on October 30, 2024, and will be available until December 10, 2024, at Dia.lo.gue Artspace, Kemang, and Kopi Manyar Bintaro. The exhibition was officially opened by Puti Guntur Soekarno, and it is open to the public for free.

2. Everything We Inherit – ISA Art Gallery

To celebrate 50 years of dialogue between Asia and Australia, ISA Art Gallery, in collaboration with the Australian Mission to ASEAN, presents the art exhibition "Everything We Inherit." This exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the complexities of cultural inheritance, migration, and identity through the works of 11 prominent artists.

Curated by Jennifer Yang, the exhibition features works that explore how our cultural heritage transforms over time. Some of the participating artists include Agus Wijaya, Emma Rani Hodges-Vanitlertpibon, Ida Lawrence, Janelle Low, and Zico Albaiquni. The exhibition offers a chance to see how the culture we inherit evolves and connects with reality, imagination, and what has been lost over time. This exhibition can be visited until November 29, 2024, at ISA Art Gallery, located at Wisma 46, Kota BNI, Jakarta. The exhibition is open to the public and can be enjoyed for free from Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
