16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE CAMPAIGN BY THE FRENCH EMBASSY AND IFI

A tangible step toward a world free from gender-based violence through education, solidarity, and collective action

As part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, held from November 25 to December 10, 2024, the French Embassy and Institut français d'Indonésie (IFI) are joining the global campaign to raise awareness about violence against women and promote gender equality. With the spirit of France's feminist diplomacy, this program integrates gender equality into various fields, such as sustainable development, security, and human rights.

IFI collaborates with several organizations, including Yayasan Pulih, Jakarta Feminist, Aliansi Laki-laki Baru, and Kumparan Woman. This initiative aims to broaden awareness while strengthening solidarity in combating gender-based violence in Indonesia.

“Abuse is Not Love” Seminars in Universities and Public Events on Car Free Day

One of the campaign's highlights is the "Abuse is Not Love" seminar held at partner universities across Indonesia. Led by Yayasan Pulih and Jakarta Feminist, these seminars educate young people on how to recognize and escape toxic relationships.
Livia Iskandar from Yayasan Pulih stated, "Through this seminar, we hope to equip young people with tools to understand gender-based violence and build healthy relationships. This dialogue is part of our commitment to supporting survivors and promoting social justice."

In addition to the seminars, IFI hosted an open event during Car Free Day on December 8, 2024, at Jalan MH Thamrin, Jakarta. Designed to reach a broader audience, the event features interactive games, educational activities, and information sessions. Yayasan Pulih will lead discussions on physical and verbal violence against women, while Jakarta Feminist and Aliansi Laki-laki Baru will highlight the role of men in combating gender-based violence. Nur Hasyim from Aliansi Laki-laki Baru emphasized, "Violence against women undermines human dignity as a whole. Men must actively engage in ending this violence as a way to reclaim their humanity."

Global Collaboration for Real Change

IFI and the French Embassy recognize that eradicating gender-based violence requires collective action and a global approach. This campaign not only relies on public activities but also aims to change mindsets through education and inclusion.

Jules Irrmann, Director of IFI, stated, "The fight to respect women's rights is a priority for France worldwide. We thank our partners in Indonesia for their collaboration in amplifying the issue of gender-based violence." Similarly, Naila Rizqi Zakiah from Jakarta Feminist stressed, "This collaboration is expected to raise awareness that gender-based violence is not just a women's issue but one that affects all of us."

Promoting Awareness and Solidarity

Through the series of activities during these 16 Days of Activism, IFI and its partners reinforce the message that violence against women is a serious issue requiring collective attention. This campaign stands as tangible evidence of international cooperation aiming to create a more equal and safer world for all.
