ROH PRESENTS SPLIT BODY: A MULTI-SENSORY EXHIBITION OF BODY, IDENTITY, AND TECHNOLOGY
An immersive journey that blurs the lines shaping our existence
ROH is currently presenting Split Body, the debut solo exhibition of artist duo Ittah Yoda at the gallery. Running from June 11 to July 20, 2025, this exhibition is one of Jakarta’s noteworthy art events, inviting visitors to explore the intersections of the body, identity, technology, and the environment.
Ittah Yoda is a collaboration between Virginie Ittah (Paris, 1984) and Kai Yoda (Tokyo, 1985), who met at the Royal College of Art in London. Since then, they have developed a joint artistic practice rooted in cultural research, material exploration, and virtual world-building.
Through Split Body, the duo invites audiences to engage with art through an immersive, multi-sensory experience that combines painting, sculpture, virtual reality, sound, and scent within a unified space.
The exhibition explores the idea of the fragmented body and the possibility of new forms of identity that transcend physical, spiritual, and technological boundaries. Paintings serve as psychological landscapes, virtual reality generates disembodied sensations, and scents evoke memory and emotion.
Split Body is shaped by the concept of the Symbiocene, an era defined by harmonious coexistence between human and non-human life. Ittah Yoda creates a narrative of hybrid embodiments that challenge conventional distinctions between nature and technology, the real and the virtual, human and non-human.
The development of this exhibition is also the result of their artistic residencies with ROH in Indonesia, at DESA in Ubud, Bali (2024) and Rumah Tangga in Depok, West Java (2025). Their work incorporates material and cultural influences from Indonesia, Greece, and France, forming a constantly evolving artistic ecosystem.
The exhibition is free and open to the public. Complementing the visual works are a sound composition by Dylan Amirio and curatorial texts by Exquisite Corpse, adding depth to the sensory experience.
Split Body offers more than just visual art. It invites reflection on the connections between identity, the body, and the rapidly evolving relationship between humanity and technology. This is a rare opportunity to experience contemporary art through a truly innovative and immersive presentation.
