EUROPE ON SCREEN 2024: A CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL CINEMA

Experience the magic of European cinema at Europe on Screen 2024, where captivating films from across the continent come to life

The Europe on Screen (EoS) festival, an eagerly anticipated event showcasing the richness of European cinema, returns to Indonesia from June 7 to 16, 2024. Spanning 10 days, this cinematic extravaganza will delight film enthusiasts across eight cities in Indonesia with a selection of 75 of the latest European films, free of charge.

Mr. Denis Chaibi, the European Union Ambassador to Indonesia, eagerly anticipates this year's festival, noting the growing enthusiasm among Indonesian audiences for EoS. Excitingly, he announced the addition of two new cities, Malang and Sidoarjo, bringing the total to eight cities hosting EoS 2024. Furthermore, the festival lineup will feature films from 28 European countries, including debut appearances from Cyprus, Lithuania, and Georgia.

Now in its 24th edition, EoS continues to solidify its position as Indonesia's longest-running international film festival. Alongside its primary focus on European cinema, EoS 2024 will also shine a spotlight on Indonesian short films and films shot in Europe through the 'On Location' program. Additionally, the festival will offer activities geared towards fostering connections between the European and Indonesian film industries.

Kicking off with the animated comedy "Chicken for Linda!" from France and concluding with the romantic fantasy film "Every You Every Me" from Germany, EoS 2024 promises a diverse lineup catering to audiences of all ages. Mr. Nauval Yazid, Festival Co-Director of EoS 2024, emphasized the broad spectrum of genres represented in this year's program.

In line with its mission to bolster the Indonesian film industry and promote collaboration between European and Indonesian filmmakers, EoS 2024 will host the Short Film Pitching Project (SFPP), providing winners with partial funding for their film productions. Ms. Meninaputri Wismurti, Festival Co-Director of EoS 2024, disclosed that this year's SFPP received an impressive 197 submissions from various regions in Indonesia.

Winners of SFPP EoS 2024 can look forward to receiving cash and non-cash prizes from EoS 2024, SAE Indonesia, Kemala Home Living, and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. Additionally, Eamon Little, a screenwriter from Ireland, will grace EoS 2024 with his presence, attending film screenings and conducting scriptwriting workshops in Jakarta.

In homage to the legendary Italian director Lina Wertmüller, EoS 2024 will present a retrospective program featuring her classic films, complemented by an exhibition of her works at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura Jakarta. Leading up to the festival, the Road to EoS 2024 program engaged audiences through a series of offline and online events, including discussions with prominent figures from the Indonesian and European film industries.

Embracing the ethos of collaboration and diversity, EoS 2024 invites all film enthusiasts to partake in the celebration of cinematic excellence and to inspire the next generation of filmmakers. With film screenings accessible for free at all festival locations, audience members in Jakarta can register one hour before each screening. Let this cinematic journey enrich your experience and broaden your horizons, fostering strong bonds between nations through the universal language of cinema.
