SPOTLIGHT INDONESIA 2024: HIGHLIGHTING CONTEMPORARY FASHION AND NUSANTARA TEXTILES IN A CULTURAL FUSION
Blends contemporary fashion with Nusantara heritage, leaving a global mark through sustainability and creativity
SPOTLIGHT Indonesia 2024 was successfully held from December 12-15 at the Assembly Hall, Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), with the theme "Cultural Fusion," showcasing the blend of Nusantara culture and textiles in contemporary fashion. Organized by the Indonesia Fashion Chamber (IFC) in collaboration with Gemalindo Kreasi Indonesia as the event organizer, this event aimed to introduce Indonesia's rich cultural heritage through sustainable ready-to-wear fashion.
As an annual fashion event now in its third year, SPOTLIGHT Indonesia once again demonstrated its role in promoting Indonesian fashion products in the global market. By prioritizing the use of textiles and local resources, SPOTLIGHT Indonesia strives to present fashion that is not only modern but also reflects Indonesia's cultural wealth. The diversity of Indonesia’s culture, including handicrafts and sustainability-based fashion, was the main focus of this event.
The event, which consisted of fashion shows, exhibitions, competitions, workshops, talk shows, and fashion installations, successfully facilitated collaboration among over 100 Indonesian designers and brands. These designers showcased a variety of works, ranging from formal wear, casual wear, street wear, to modest wear. One of the highlights of the event was the Muslim fashion parade held as part of the Road to IN2MF 2025 presented by Bank Indonesia, featuring collections from renowned designers such as Risa Maharani Basic, Dwico, and Hannie Hananto x Batik HUZA.
SPOTLIGHT Indonesia 2024 also emphasized the importance of Muslim fashion as a significant economic force for Indonesia, particularly in the international market. Considering the contribution of Muslim fashion, every event initiated by IFC continues to involve this sector, albeit in smaller proportions. This demonstrates IFC's effort to maintain a balance between the conventional and Muslim fashion sectors in Indonesia.
In addition to the fashion show, the event also featured various fashion works that combined traditional and modern elements, with an impressive and striking stage design. Designers such as Sofie, Irmasari Joedawinata, JYK by Jenny Yohana Kansil, and Anggie Rachmat presented collections that reflected Indonesia’s strong local cultural identity. Each collection showcased at SPOTLIGHT Indonesia 2024 served as a tangible example that Indonesian fashion does not solely depend on global trends but also upholds the values of rich local wisdom.
Not only a fashion exhibition, SPOTLIGHT Indonesia 2024 also held a competition to appreciate designers and brands that consistently develop sustainable fashion. House of Inang was selected as the "Best Sustainable Brand" in the event, an award recognizing their efforts in promoting sustainable fashion.
Through this event, SPOTLIGHT Indonesia 2024 successfully attracted more than 6,700 visitors with over 100 booths showcasing around 112 fashion brands. With transactions totaling more than two billion rupiahs, the event proved the immense potential of Indonesia's fashion industry.
At the closing ceremony, the Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM), Maman Abdurrahman, and the Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade, Mardyana Listyowati, were present to show their support for the development of Indonesia's fashion industry. In her speech, Lenny Agustin, National Chair of the Indonesian Fashion Chamber (IFC), hoped that SPOTLIGHT Indonesia could further strengthen Indonesia’s position as a global fashion hub.
SPOTLIGHT Indonesia 2024 also marked the 9th anniversary of IFC, a significant milestone in the organization’s journey to continue contributing to the development of Indonesia's fashion industry. Moving forward, it is hoped that this event will continue to be a platform that brings together industry players from both domestic and international fashion sectors, further raising Indonesia's profile in the global fashion scene.
