A dazzling night that celebrated outstanding films, remarkable performances, and historic achievements in the global film industry

The 98th Academy Awards once again affirmed its status as one of the most prestigious events in the global film industry. Organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the ceremony took place on March 15, 2026 at the Dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood, Los Angeles, United States. During the event, films released throughout 2025 were recognized across 24 award categories, highlighting various essential aspects of filmmaking.

The ceremony was broadcast live in the United States on the ABC television network and streamed on Hulu. Comedian and television host Conan O’Brien returned as the host for the second consecutive year after receiving positive reviews for his performance the previous year. Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan once again served as executive producers for the third consecutive year, while Hamish Hamilton directed the ceremony.

This year’s awards featured strong competition among major films. The film Sinners drew particular attention after receiving 16 nominations, the highest number in Oscar history. This achievement surpassed the previous record held by several renowned films including All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land, each of which earned 14 nominations. In addition to Sinners, several other films also received multiple nominations, including Marty Supreme, Frankenstein, and Sentimental Value with nine nominations each, while Hamnet received eight nominations.

The film One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, emerged as the biggest winner of the evening with six Academy Awards, including the most prestigious category, Best Picture. Paul Thomas Anderson also won Best Director. The film additionally received awards for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Supporting Actor through Sean Penn, and the newly introduced Best Casting category.

In the acting categories, Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor for his performance in Sinners. Meanwhile, Jessie Buckley received the Best Actress award for her role in Hamnet, where she portrayed Agnes, the wife of English playwright William Shakespeare, historically known as Anne Hathaway.

Several notable achievements also marked the 2026 Oscars. The animated film KPop Demon Hunters won two awards for Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song through the track titled Golden. The film Frankenstein also performed strongly in technical categories, winning Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Production Design.

The 2026 ceremony also introduced a new category, Best Casting. This addition recognizes the important contribution of casting professionals in shaping the overall quality of a film. With the introduction of this category, the total number of competitive categories at the Academy Awards has now reached 24.

Another memorable moment came from Amy Madigan, who won Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film Weapons. Her victory came approximately 40 years after her first Oscar nomination in 1985, marking one of the longest gaps between an initial nomination and a win in the supporting acting category.

Through these milestones and achievements, the 98th Academy Awards once again highlighted the evolving landscape of the global film industry while honoring filmmakers and artists who continue to contribute to outstanding cinematic works.
