UKRAINIAN JAZZ REVERBERATES THROUGH JAKARTA: A NIGHT OF INSPIRING SOLIDARITY

It was a captivating fusion of rhythm and resilience that brought hearts together

The Embassy of Ukraine in Indonesia, in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Jakarta, successfully hosted the "Ukrainian Jazz Night" on the evening of Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 6:00 PM. The event took place at the Goethe-Institut Jakarta building and featured a special performance by the Quartet of Usein Bekirov, a Ukrainian jazz group that beautifully combined musical artistry with a powerful message of solidarity and resilience amidst the challenges brought by the Russian invasion.

More than just a musical event, the concert served as a meaningful symbol of the strength and fighting spirit of the Ukrainian people. Yevheniia Shynkarenko, the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the Ukrainian Embassy in Jakarta, highlighted that the performance conveyed an important message about Ukraine’s determination in overcoming adversity.

The Quartet of Usein Bekirov delivered an engaging two-hour jazz performance, playing eight captivating songs. Five of these were original compositions by Usein Bekirov, while the remaining three were well-known Ukrainian jazz pieces that emphasized the group’s cultural identity and national pride.

The band consisted of Usein Bekirov as the leader, Ivan Lokhmanyuk on bass guitar, Victor Pavelko on saxophone, and Artur Frolov on drums. Their seamless coordination and musical chemistry captivated the audience throughout the evening.

The concert was attended by notable guests, including representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, as well as ambassadors, heads of missions, and members of the diplomatic corps. Their presence underscored the importance of cultural diplomacy and the role of music in fostering international understanding.

Following their exclusive performance at the embassy event, the Quartet of Usein Bekirov also took part in the BNI Java Jazz Festival held the next day, Sunday, June 1, 2025.

With its powerful blend of music and message, Ukrainian Jazz Night left a lasting impact on its audience and further strengthened cultural ties between Indonesia and Ukraine. The event reaffirmed that music remains a universal language capable of uniting and inspiring people to face global challenges together.
