POLAND’S NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE DAY: STRENGTHENING SOVEREIGNTY AND BILATERAL TIES

Celebrating the spirit of independence and deepening friendship, Poland extends its support for Indonesia’s free meal program initiative

Poland’s National Independence Day, observed annually on November 11, commemorates the establishment of the Second Polish Republic in 1918. This occasion marks Poland’s liberation from occupation by the German Empire, Austro-Hungarian Empire, and Russia after a long, arduous struggle. To honor this historic day, the Embassy of Poland in Jakarta hosted a reception at the Park Hyatt Jakarta on November 13, 2024, inviting distinguished guests from various fields, including Indonesia’s Minister of Trade, Agus Suparmanto, who met with Poland's Ambassador, Beata Stoczyńska, at the event.

During the event, Minister Agus Suparmanto expressed his appreciation for the increasingly solid bilateral relations between Indonesia and Poland. He highlighted the importance of trade cooperation as a vital aspect in strengthening the ties between the two nations, particularly by fostering more intensive interactions among business players from both countries.

Solidarity and Democracy Uniting Two Nations

In his speech, Maciej Tumulec, Chargé d’Affaires of the Polish Embassy to Indonesia, emphasized the shared values of democracy and the spirit of independence that bind Indonesia and Poland. He noted that both countries have endured long journeys to achieve independence, making Poland’s Independence Day a moment to celebrate freedom together.

Tumulec also touched on the ongoing conflict in Eastern Europe. Russia's invasion of Ukraine was described as a threat not only to Poland but also to international stability and even the economies of distant countries, including Indonesia. Poland, committed to both freedom and humanity, has received millions of Ukrainian refugees and provided aid to communities impacted by conflict, including those in Palestine. He stated, “Poland stands for freedom, but also for humanity,” reflecting the nation’s humanitarian stance.

In 2025, Indonesia and Poland will celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations, a milestone that is hoped to further strengthen cooperation in various fields, including trade, food security, and technology. Tumulec noted that trade value between the two countries has increased significantly in recent years, reaching 1.7 billion USD. Poland plans to strengthen its contribution to Indonesia’s food security, including supporting the free meal program currently being planned by the Indonesian government. “Poland, as one of the largest food producers in Europe, is ready to contribute to Indonesia’s food security and support this free meal program,” he said.

With Poland’s upcoming leadership in the European Union, the country is also encouraging the conclusion of the European Union-Indonesia Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations as a step toward closer economic ties. This is seen as a significant opportunity for both countries to support each other in the food sector, particularly in the food processing industry, where Poland is prepared to play an active role as one of Europe’s leading food producers.

Poland Festival: Introducing Polish Culture, Products, and Technology to Indonesia

As part of the Independence Day celebrations, Poland Festival was held at five locations across Indonesia. This festival, organized by the Polish Trade Office in Jakarta in collaboration with the Polish Embassy, provided a platform to introduce Polish products, culture, and technology to the Indonesian public. “This festival is one of the most important events in promoting Polish products, culture, business, and technology in Indonesia,” said Tumulec proudly.

Concluding his speech, Tumulec expressed his gratitude, saying, "I would like to thank our trade office for their great work. Last but not least, our people-to-people contacts. I'm happy to share with you that this year the number of Polish tourists…” According to him, direct interactions between the people of both nations can provide a strong foundation for building harmonious cross-cultural relationships.

Amid global challenges, both nations stand together in their commitment to stability, security, and prosperity. With these increasingly close diplomatic relations, a future of greater harmony and mutual support is envisioned for Indonesia and Poland.
