MERANGKAI LUANG-HINGGA LAPANG – AJIBA’S FIRST SOLO EXHIBITION AT GALERIKERTAS STUDIOHANAFI

A poetic journey where threads of steel weave stories, turning human fragility into limitless potential

Galerikertas Studiohanafi brings fresh energy to the art scene in the second half of this year with a solo exhibition titled Merangkai Luang-Hingga Lapang by emerging artist Ajiba. A graduate of the Master of Fine Arts program at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Ajiba debuts her first solo show with a deep exploration of steel wire and weaving techniques as an expressive language to portray human vulnerability.

Ajiba’s works invite viewers to journey through the process of reclaiming fragments of identity scattered by time. Combining tactile and installation-based approaches, she creates pieces that can be both seen and felt. These works capture the fragility of human existence, while also opening space for creative possibilities and new interpretations to emerge.

The exhibition is curated by Rizki Asasi, in-house curator at Galerikertas, who has previously worked on the exhibitions Khôra: Di Antara and WONG. Rizki integrates visual storytelling with interior design, lighting, and gallery layout, all tailored to enhance the atmosphere of Ajiba’s work. The result is an immersive visual experience that offers a fresh perspective on contemporary textile art.

Merangkai Luang-Hingga Lapang opened on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. WIB, and runs until September 6, 2025, at Galerikertas Studiohanafi in Depok. The opening featured a discussion with the curator, creating an opportunity for direct interaction between the artist, visitors, and art enthusiasts. Admission is free, with visiting hours from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and closed on Mondays.

This exhibition is the culmination of Ajiba’s three-month artist residency. In her creative process, she reimagines the physicality of steel wire, weaving it meticulously into installations filled with meaning. The process itself feels almost meditative, serving as a way for her to reconnect the fragments of herself that had once been separated.

Her works do not simply portray fragility, but also the strength that emerges from it. Wire, often associated with rigidity and coldness, is transformed into flexible, detailed structures rich in texture. Through this, she shows how material limitations can spark new forms of creative freedom.

With Merangkai Luang-Hingga Lapang, Ajiba invites audiences to reflect on the human journey of acceptance, healing, and rewriting one’s life story. The exhibition reminds us that vulnerability is not an ending, but the beginning of limitless possibilities.
