Experience a captivating blend of rich history and innovation, crafted to enlighten and inspire
Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta is once again bringing a vibrant cultural experience through the Istiqlal Harmony Festival, running from December 10, 2024, to February 28, 2025. This festival is a collaboration between the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of SMEs, the Istiqlal Mosque Management Agency, and the Cultural Advancement Movement Cipta.
With an interactive and educational exhibition, visitors can immerse themselves in the rich history of Islamic culture in the Nusantara through art installations, literary works, and an SME bazaar.
Exploring the Islamic Cultural Legacy
The festival’s Istiqlal Harmony Gallery is located on the ground floor of Istiqlal Mosque, accessible through Al Fattah Gate. Inside, visitors will find a series of curated exhibition spaces that trace the history and cultural evolution of Islam in Indonesia.
One of the main highlights is the first exhibition space, showcasing sketches and scale models of the Lapangan Banteng area, including Merdeka Palace, Imanuel Church, the Department Building, and Pos Bloc. A key feature is the Istiqlal scale model by Arya Angga Sinaga, the winner of the National Capital Design Competition, illustrating an urban design that prioritizes connectivity through pedestrian walkways.
The second exhibition space takes visitors on a historical journey of Islam’s development in Indonesia, featuring artifacts such as Cirebon glass paintings with wayang motifs and calligraphy, rofiah batik, religious comics, poetry, and ancient manuscripts from Pulau Penyengat.
Meanwhile, the third exhibition space brings a modern perspective, featuring an interactive study of Imam Bukhari’s hadiths alongside immersive art technology, presented in collaboration with the Buchari Islamic Art Gallery from Uzbekistan.
A Vibrant SME Bazaar and Global Participation
Beyond the exhibition, the festival also features a lively SME bazaar with over 100 local entrepreneurs, promoting Indonesia’s finest traditional and contemporary products while boosting the local economy.
On average, the festival attracts around 1,300 visitors daily. In the coming years, the event is expected to expand further, with potential participation from Qatar, Turkey, Malaysia, and China.
Tickets and Accessibility
The Istiqlal Harmony Festival is open to the public, with ticket prices set at Rp 45,000 for adults and Rp 35,000 for children, students, and university students. Each ticket includes a Rp 5,000 endowment, encouraging visitors to contribute to social causes. The exhibition space is also designed to be child-friendly and accessible for people with disabilities, spanning 1,100 square meters and equipped with interactive multimedia technology, immersive spaces, and VR devices.
