HARMONY BETWEEN TWO NATIONS: A CONCERT COMMEMORATING 75 YEARS OF INDONESIA–RUSSIA DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

An unforgettable evening that marked a milestone in shared history and cultural unity

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Russia, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Jakarta hosted a special gala concert titled Konser Bersama on the evening of Monday, April 14, 2025. The event also formed part of the 13th Session of the Indonesia–Russia Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, and Technical Cooperation. Held at the Ciputra Artpreneur Theater in Jakarta, the concert showcased an artistic collaboration reflecting the rich cultural heritage of both nations.

Organized at the invitation of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Mr. Sergei Tolchenov, the concert served as a powerful symbol of the bilateral ties that have been nurtured since the era of President Soekarno. The attendance of prominent figures such as Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Russia’s Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova, and Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Culture Giring Ganesha highlighted the growing significance of ongoing cooperation—not only in economic and technical fields but also in culture.

The evening opened vibrantly with a Balinese dance accompanied by traditional gamelan, followed by the Saman dance from Aceh, which showcased the unity and dynamic energy of Indonesian culture. A special appearance by Indonesian tenor Farman Purnama added depth and emotion to the evening with his captivating vocal performance.

From the Russian side, the renowned Pyatnitsky Choir captivated the audience with renditions of traditional Russian folk songs. In a touching gesture, the choir also paid tribute to Indonesia by performing the iconic songs “Rayuan Pulau Kelapa” and “Ayo Mama,” which were warmly received by the audience. The evening also featured energetic performances of the Lezginka and the rhythmic Drum Dance, further enriching the cultural diversity on display.

The presence of artists from both countries sharing one stage stood as a testament to the power of art and culture in bridging geographical distances and strengthening international bonds. Through music and dance, the concert demonstrated that Indonesia–Russia collaboration flourishes not only in formal domains but also in the shared spirit of cultural appreciation.

This concert was more than just a celebration of diplomatic history—it was a reflection of both nations’ commitment to building a harmonious and mutually inspiring relationship through cultural exchange. It was a colorful evening that captured the closeness of two nations united through art and friendship.
