PROTECTING THE EARTH FOR THE NEXT GENERATION: ECOPHILIA EXHIBITION INSPIRES ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS AT MUBI

An immersive showcase that weaves art, history, and sustainability into a powerful call for collective responsibility toward a healthier planet

The Bank Indonesia Museum, widely known as MuBI, once again presents a temporary exhibition through its public program D’Commentry. Titled Ecophilia: Protect the Earth, Protect the Greeneration, the exhibition reflects Bank Indonesia’s commitment to introducing its roles and functions to the public while fostering greater awareness of environmental sustainability.

The Ecophilia exhibition was officially opened on Wednesday afternoon, December 10, 2025, at the Multipurpose Hall of the Bank Indonesia Museum. The opening ceremony was led by Anton Pitono, Director of the Communication Department of Bank Indonesia. Following the inauguration, the exhibition is open to the public from December 11, 2025, until February 15, 2026. Visitors can explore the exhibition daily from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM WIB at MuBI’s temporary exhibition space.

Rooted in the concept of ecophilia, which refers to a deep love and appreciation for the environment, the exhibition blends education, art, and ecological reflection into a multisensory experience. The museum’s numismatic collection serves as the central medium, highlighting the close relationship between humanity, nature, and the diverse landscapes of the Indonesian archipelago that have long been depicted on banknotes and coins. Through this perspective, visitors are invited to see the rupiah not only as a medium of exchange, but also as a reflection of national identity and a symbol of commitment to environmental preservation.

The exhibition is designed with a narrative journey that guides visitors through a process of reflection. It begins by illustrating the early formation of the Earth and the emergence of nature, then moves into scenes that portray harmony between humans and the environment. Visitors are also introduced to the natural beauty of Indonesia, showcased through representations of its rich flora and fauna. As the journey continues, the exhibition presents a more contemplative phase, revealing the realities of environmental degradation and the growing threats posed by climate change.

Visually, the exhibition is structured into six thematic zones. The experience opens with the Ecophilia Corridor as an introductory space, followed by the Pelataran Zone and the Rupa Indah Zone, which celebrate the beauty of Indonesia’s natural landscapes. The journey then leads into the Earth Crisis Zone, highlighting the urgency of environmental damage, before transitioning to the Collective Action Zone that encourages visitors to take an active role in protecting the planet. The exhibition concludes in the Coda Zone: Green Promise, a reflective area symbolizing a shared commitment to concrete action beyond the gallery walls.

Through Ecophilia: Protect the Earth, Protect the Greeneration, Bank Indonesia reinforces its mission to promote green economic practices and sustainable financial education. The exhibition is expected to inspire greater public awareness and encourage collective responsibility in caring for the environment, ensuring a healthier planet for future generations.
