EXPLORING LIGHT AND ART AT SUMONAR FESTIVAL 2023

A mesmerizing fusion of light, art, and global creativity in Yogyakarta's vibrant cultural scene.

Sumonar, organized by Jogja Video Mapping Project (JVMP), stands as a mesmerizing video mapping and light art festival. Since 2019, Sumonar has woven itself into Yogyakarta's vibrant art tapestry, serving not merely as an exhibition but as a global meeting point for light art practitioners and enthusiasts.

Undergoing remarkable transformations since 2019, this year's Sumonar Fest boldly adopts the theme "Being as Such." It sets itself apart by hosting events at the Galeri Museum Affandi and the BNI 46 Fasad area, Titik Nol KM Yogyakarta. The 11-day event, from November 25 to December 5, 2023, features a daytime gallery (10:00 AM - 6:00 PM) and an evening gallery (7:00 PM - 10:00 PM).

Sumonar Fest 2023 extends beyond light art exhibitions, offering a diverse range of events—Video Mapping Shows, Art Exhibitions, Light Art Workshops, Live Performances, and more. Initiated by Jogja Video Mapping Project, the festival has evolved into a hub for interaction among light installation art enthusiasts.

The Sumonar 2023 lineup features 22 artists, including three from Chile, Poland, and Spain, showcasing their spectacular works. Eleven artists illuminate the Museum Affandi, while another eleven conquer the façade of the BNI Zero Kilometer building.

With its array of events and international artist participation, Sumonar Fest 2023 promises a captivating and profound experience for every visitor. Through unique visual expressions, the festival not only illuminates Yogyakarta with light but also celebrates art's beauty that transcends conventional boundaries.
