SEASONS OF GRACE BY OLIVER WIHARDJA: EXPLORING SPIRITUAL BEAUTY AT JAKARTA CATHEDRAL

Experience vivid colors, contemplative spaces, and divine inspiration in a captivating art showcase

Seasons of Grace, the newest exhibition by Indonesian artist Oliver Wihardja, opened at the Mezzanine of Jakarta Cathedral on November 29, 2025, and will run until January 4, 2026. The exhibition showcases 17 paintings that explore themes of faith, creation, and the presence of divine grace throughout the liturgical year, offering visitors a rich visual and spiritual experience.

Spiritual Reflection Calendar

Located in the left wing of the Mezzanine, the exhibition features 14 paintings selected as the official artworks for the Jakarta Cathedral 2026 Calendar. Each piece was thoughtfully chosen for the message it conveys in alignment with its corresponding month, inviting visitors into seasons of prayer, contemplation, and spiritual growth. One notable painting highlights the Church’s fifth social teaching, the 2026 Pastoral Guidelines of the Archdiocese of Jakarta: Integrity of Creation. This work calls for ecological repentance, environmental stewardship, and a commitment to healing the damage caused to nature by human activity.

Nativity Collection at the Center of the Mezzanine

In the central mezzanine area, visitors can admire three paintings depicting the Birth of Jesus Christ. These works are displayed alongside the Cathedral’s historic Nativity figures, which date back to the construction of Jakarta Cathedral in 1901. Together, the paintings and sculptures create a contemplative space that celebrates the mystery of the Incarnation and offers a moving spiritual experience.
