CULTURAL SHOWCASE COMMEMORATES 75 YEARS OF INDONESIA AND THAILAND DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS IN JAKARTA

A harmonious blend of art and cultural heritage from two nations came together on one grand stage, igniting a spirit of brotherhood

The Royal Thai Embassy in Jakarta, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, successfully presented a joint cultural performance on July 17, 2025, at the Jakarta Arts Building. This event marked the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Thailand and highlighted the enduring friendship between the two nations.

The program, which began at 5:30 PM local time, featured a series of artistic performances from both countries. Highlights included the Blessing Dance, a collaborative interpretation of the classic stories Ramakien and Ramayana, and the Friendship Dance, symbolizing unity and harmony between Indonesia and Thailand. Each performance reflected the rich cultural and historical connections shared by the two nations.

In his address, the Ambassador of Thailand to Indonesia, Prapan Disyatat, described the 75-year milestone as a significant chapter in the long-standing cooperation between the two countries. He noted that the relationship between Indonesia and Thailand goes far beyond formal diplomacy and has been established for centuries.

“Our relationship stretches back much further than 75 years. Our ancestors were already connected through trade, religion, and cross-cultural exchange. This is why Indonesia and Thailand share many remarkable cultural and traditional similarities,” said Ambassador Prapan.

He also expressed his hope for continued cultural collaboration and exchange in the years ahead. The ambassador extended his appreciation to the ministries of culture from both countries for their strong cooperation in making the event possible.

The celebration was attended by several distinguished officials, including Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Culture, Giring Ganesha, Director General of Diplomacy, Promotion, and Cultural Cooperation at the Indonesian Ministry of Culture, Endah Tjahjani Dwirini Retno Astuti, and Thailand’s Deputy Minister of Culture, Ploy Tanikul.

Through this shared cultural presentation, Indonesia and Thailand reaffirmed the role of art and tradition as a meaningful bridge for diplomacy and connection. The event stood as a symbol of both nations’ commitment to nurturing a friendship that has thrived for more than seven decades.
