From October 13th to 15th, 2023, the world turned its eyes to the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in Lombok, Indonesia, where one of the most prestigious motorcycle racing events, MotoGP, unfolded. This thrilling event was a part of the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC), making history as the first time it graced Asia, particularly Indonesia. ARRC showcased several talented teams and riders from Indonesia, filling the nation with pride.
Beyond its sportsmanship, MotoGP 2023 was poised to boost the tourism sector, hastening the national economic recovery, especially in Mandalika, a distinguished Super Priority Tourism Destination. The attendance at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia (IndonesianGP) 2023 surpassed last year's count, with a total of 102,929 spectators cheering from the stands. Over 300 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) added vibrancy to the event, highlighting exceptional collaboration.
The success of MotoGP 2023 was a testament to meticulous preparation and collective dedication. ITDC, in partnership with the Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA), orchestrated various improvements within and around the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit. Infrastructure upgrades, including a 35 km road network, parking facilities accommodating 7,888 cars and motorcycles, entrance gates, transportation services, and efficient traffic management, were meticulously refined to offer the audience an unparalleled viewing experience.
The riders, navigating the splendid 4.32-kilometer Mandalika Circuit, expressed their awe. The circuit's charm, harmonizing with Mandalika's coastal allure, not only enchanted their eyes but also showcased nature's captivating beauty. Additionally, the unique products from Lombok's creative economy caught the riders' attention.
In this edition of the race, Francesco Bagnaia claimed the top spot on the podium, followed by Maverick Vinales and Fabio Quartararo. This triumph not only elevated the riders' status but also bolstered Wonderful Indonesia's global image. Wonderful Indonesia branding graced turns 16 and 18 of the Mandalika circuit, Wonderful Hills (Bukit 360), and various other spots. Beyond the circuit, Wonderful Indonesia illuminated areas outside the track through diverse signage, neon boxes, banners, shuttle buses, and the sideline event Mandalika Seru. The three-day creative economic bazaar provided a platform for creative economy players, ensuring their recognition by a wider audience.
