TOMINI BAY FESTIVAL 2025: CELEBRATING THE HARMONY OF THE SEA, CULTURE, AND ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
An inspiring coastal celebration that intertwines art, nature, and community spirit into an unforgettable oceanfront experience
The Tomini Bay Festival returns in 2025 with renewed passion to celebrate and preserve the natural and maritime cultural heritage of Central Sulawesi. Taking place at the former Sail Tomini area in Parigi Utara District, Parigi Moutong Regency, the festival will be held from November 20 to 22, 2025. With the theme “A Gift from the Sea,” this year’s event highlights two main pillars: Cultural Celebration and Environmental Responsibility.
Tomini Bay is one of Indonesia’s largest bays, linking three provinces: North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, and Central Sulawesi. Once a vital trade route for centuries, the bay remains a region of remarkable marine beauty and rich cultural diversity. Yet, modern challenges such as environmental degradation and diminishing awareness of cultural preservation have emerged. Through this festival, the local government and community aim to rekindle environmental awareness and foster pride in local identity.
The key objectives of the Tomini Bay Festival 2025 are to preserve local traditions, promote sustainable tourism, enhance environmental awareness, empower the local economy, and strengthen regional identity. With an expected attendance of 8,000 to 12,000 local visitors, 3,000 domestic tourists, and 50 international guests, the festival is part of the 110 Kharisma Event Nusantara (KEN) programs recognized by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.
This year’s festival embraces a stronger sense of collaboration. The concept of environmental art will take center stage through nature-inspired installations and creative expressions displayed across the venue. The Parigi Moutong Office of Youth, Sports, and Tourism (Disporapar) has partnered with various groups, including youth organizations, to launch the Youth Camp for Tomini Bay Environmental Awareness. Twenty-five youth groups from different districts will join this educational initiative, featuring mangrove conservation training, beach clean-ups, and mangrove planting as practical efforts to protect coastal ecosystems.
Beyond its environmental focus, the festival also offers a lively blend of cultural performances, art exhibitions, traditional culinary experiences, and local creative showcases. Every corner exudes warmth and color, reflecting the unity and spirit of the coastal community. Visitors can also explore fishing villages, mangrove forests, and renowned diving spots that showcase the stunning underwater world of Tomini Bay.
By uniting culture, art, and environmental awareness, the Tomini Bay Festival 2025 stands as more than an entertainment event—it embodies the harmony between people and the sea, celebrating the enduring beauty and vitality of Sulawesi’s natural treasures.
