THERESA KUSUMADJAJA BECOMES THE FIRST INDONESIAN WOMAN NOMINATED FOR THE 2026 GRAMMY AWARDS

A groundbreaking achievement that elevates Indonesia’s creative presence onto one of the world’s most prestigious music stages

Indonesia’s creative industry has achieved a significant milestone on the global stage with the recognition of Theresa Kusumadjaja. She was officially nominated at the 68th Grammy Awards in the Best Music Video category, making her the first Indonesian woman to earn this distinction. The nomination represents not only a major step in her professional journey but also a meaningful moment for the presence of Indonesian talent in the international music industry.

Theresa received the nomination as the video producer of So Be It, a music video by American hip hop duo Clipse, consisting of Pusha T and Malice. Directed by Hannan Hussain and released on July 17, 2025, the project highlights Theresa’s central role in overseeing the entire visual production. Her collaboration with the director resulted in a compelling work that gained recognition from Grammy voters and secured a place in one of the ceremony’s most competitive categories.

In the same category, she was nominated alongside established industry figures, including Sophie Muller, who has directed more than 300 music videos and previously won a Grammy Award. The Best Music Video honor this year was ultimately awarded to Anxiety by Doechii.

Theresa’s path to this achievement has been unconventional. She holds an academic background in biochemistry and statistics, fields far removed from the creative industry she now works in. Driven by passion, she made the bold decision to move to New York and pursue a career as a photo and video producer. That move marked a turning point and laid the foundation for her professional growth in the global creative sector.

Even before her Grammy nomination, Theresa had built a solid reputation as a skilled producer. She has collaborated with prominent artists such as A$AP Rocky and Frank Ocean. In addition to working with musicians, she has also handled projects for internationally recognized brands, including Asics and Bose. She further expanded her portfolio by producing a short film in collaboration with Reebok titled The Beatnik. These projects reflect both her versatility and the consistent quality of her work across different areas of visual production.

As an Indonesian citizen currently based in the United States, Theresa continues to contribute actively to the arts and creative industries, particularly in video and film production. Her nomination demonstrates that Indonesian creative professionals are fully capable of contributing to and competing at the highest levels of the global music industry.
