SONG TO THE MOON CONCERT: A FUSION OF CZECH MUSIC AND FRIENDSHIP IN JAKARTA

A beautifully emotional fusion, showcased in a collaborative performance in a warm and meaningful atmosphere

On Friday, May 2, 2025, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Jakarta held a memorable concert titled Song to the Moon at the Bali Room of Hotel Indonesia Kempinski. The event was a celebration of cultural appreciation, showcasing the beauty of Czech classical music performed by acclaimed musicians from around the world.

The evening began with a cocktail reception at 6:00 PM, bringing together a diverse group of guests, including diplomats, artists, professionals, and academics. At 6:30 PM, the concert officially began, offering the audience a chance to enjoy timeless compositions by Czech musical legends such as Antonín Dvo?ák, Bed?ich Smetana, and Josef Suk.

Among the featured performers were Kimball Gallagher, a pianist and artistic director from New York, and Natalie Ming-I Tsai, a talented violinist from Taiwan. They were joined by Indonesian cellist Bryant Bozali and Czech vocalist Zuzana Karlíková from the Slovácko region, who delivered a moving performance of Dvo?ák’s "Song to the Moon."

The concert program included romantic and emotionally resonant works such as Romantic Pieces, Op. 75, Chanson d’amour by Josef Suk, and Piano Trio in G Minor, Op. 15 by Smetana, which stood out as one of the highlights of the night. Other heartfelt pieces like Songs My Mother Taught Me and Good Night touched the audience deeply.

This concert also marked the second collaboration between Kimball Gallagher and the Czech Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Jaroslav Dole?ek, along with his wife, Magdalena Dole?ková. Their first collaboration took place in Myanmar in 2017 during the Myanmar Music Festival. This performance was also dedicated to the late Melissa Huang, a violist who had participated in the earlier concert and has since passed away.

More than just a musical performance, Song to the Moon served as a heartfelt celebration of the enduring friendship and cultural connection between Czechia and Indonesia. The evening's warm atmosphere was a powerful reminder of music’s unique ability to bring people together and create lasting memories.
