SAKA MUSEUM BALI NAMED ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST BEAUTIFUL MUSEUMS BY PRIX VERSAILLES

A stunning cultural landmark that captivates with its visionary design and deep-rooted philosophy

Indonesia has once again gained international recognition. The SAKA Museum, located within the AYANA Resort in Jimbaran, Bali, has officially been named one of the world’s most beautiful museums by the 2025 Prix Versailles. This prestigious France-based institution evaluates architecture, sustainability, and cultural value. In its 11th edition, announced on May 5, 2025, Prix Versailles honored seven museums deemed outstanding in these categories. SAKA Museum is the only representative from Indonesia to be included in this prestigious list.

It joins six other international museums: Grand Palais (France), Audeum (South Korea), Kunstsilo (Norway), Diriyah Art Futures (Saudi Arabia), the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and the Joslyn Art Museum (United States). From this list, three museums will be selected for an additional World Title in December, recognizing excellence in either interior or exterior design.

What sets SAKA Museum apart is its concept and design, which are deeply rooted in the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana—the harmonious balance between the divine, humanity, and nature. The museum conveys cultural narratives through immersive exhibitions, including the Nyepi ritual, the UNESCO-recognized Subak irrigation system, and Bali’s vibrant artistic and spiritual traditions.

The architectural design reflects the Giri Segara philosophy, which embodies the balance between mountain and sea. Its sloping roof visually connects the sky and ocean, creating a reflective and contemplative atmosphere for visitors. Inside, the museum features a Knowledge Center and a Heritage Gallery that house historical documents and artifacts, enriching visitors’ understanding of Bali’s cultural evolution.

SAKA Museum envisions itself as a global cornerstone of Balinese art and culture, aiming to inspire a new generation of cultural ambassadors through innovative and sustainable presentations by 2030. Its mission is to enrich lives through meaningful and thought-provoking cultural experiences.

Prior to receiving the Prix Versailles award, SAKA Museum had already garnered other notable accolades, including being named one of TIME magazine’s World’s Greatest Places 2024 and being listed among the Top 100 at the Kyoto Global Design Awards in the same year. More than just an exhibition space, SAKA Museum serves as a center for cultural awareness, bridging Bali’s past, present, and future.
