Jeddah is once again bathed in the luminance of cinema as the Red Sea International Film Festival 2023 takes center stage. Spanning from November 30 to December 9, 2023, this event unfolds ten days filled with a blend of fresh cinematic gems and timeless classics. Orchestrated by the Red Sea Film Foundation, this esteemed affair not only highlights the cream of cinema but also serves as a vibrant platform for fostering creativity and innovation within the film industry. The Red Sea Film Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to advancing the film landscape in Saudi Arabia, presents this festival as a supportive pillar for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's ambitious journey across diverse sectors, encompassing entertainment and culture.
The festival commences with the grand premiere of the Saudi fantasy romance, "HWJN," directed by Yasir Al Yasiri. The illustrious presence of global luminaries like Baz Luhrman, Will Smith, Johnny Depp, Maïwenn, Michelle Williams, and Sharon Stone adds a touch of glamour to the opening night. Guided by Baz Luhrmann as the jury chairman, the festival orchestrates awards graced by distinguished jurors, including Joel Kinnaman, Freida Pinto, Amina Khalil, and Paz Vega, who will express their admiration for outstanding works in the Features and Shorts categories.
Moreover, the pinnacle gala night at Shangri-La Jeddah witnesses the festival's magnificence, with accolades presented to Egypt's screen icon, Nabila Ebeid. The festival's closing night promises grandeur, featuring the MENA premiere of "Ferrari," Michael Mann's latest biopic starring Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz. The audience will be enchanted by the most recent creation from Studio Ghibli director Hayao Miyazaki, "The Boy and the Heron," as it takes center stage as the Public Closing Film.
