PRILLY LATUCONSINA: THE RESCUE DIVER AT RED BULL BALI 2026
Actress. Rescue diver. Red Bull Bali 2026. Here is how Prilly Latuconsina earned the role that most people watching the cliff missed.
Prilly Latuconsina was afraid of the ocean. That is the fact that makes everything that came after it more interesting. Not someone who grew up near the sea and found their way into diving naturally. Someone who was afraid of it, decided to face that fear, and then kept going long past the point where most people would have stopped.
She got her Open Water certification. Then Advanced Open Water. Then Rescue Diver. Then she went to Eastern Indonesia and trained in waters with strong currents at 10 meters depth. And then, in May 2026, she was in the water at Kelingking Beach, Nusa Penida, while the world's best cliff divers fell from 27 meters above her at 85 kilometers per hour.
That is the arc. And it is one of the more quietly extraordinary stories of 2026.
If you have been following what Prilly Latuconsina has been building this year, from Holy Crowd at Cannes Critics' Week to rescue diver at Red Bull Cliff Diving Bali, the picture that emerges is of someone who does not understand the concept of one lane.
From Fear to Certification: How Prilly Earned the Role

Her Instagram bio reads: Ocean lover. Rescue Diver. The order matters
Prilly Latuconsina has 48.5 million Instagram followers. Most of them know her from Satan's Slaves, from the Danur trilogy, from Holy Crowd. Fewer of them have tracked what has been happening in the water.
On her TikTok, Prilly wrote when she received her rescue diver certification: "IT'S OFFICIAL! I AM NOW A RESCUE DIVER! Training for becoming a rescue diver includes how to save a diver found in an unconscious condition. From the middle of the ocean to the shoreline and immediately perform first aid. All techniques must be done correctly because this involves people's lives and our own lives too. Must be able to perform techniques of pushing the victim, removing equipment, carrying the victim to the shore, performing CPR, artificial respiration, and providing oxygen. I never thought I could become a rescue diver, because I was originally afraid of the ocean and went diving to conquer that fear. Now I can perform rescues. I feel calmer when diving because I already know how to dive safely. If we are determined and brave enough to challenge ourselves, we can achieve what we once thought was impossible."
That caption is the most honest description of who Prilly Latuconsina is outside of acting. Someone who identified a fear, used it as a reason to learn, learned more than was required, and ended up qualified for something she never originally intended.
During rescue diver training in Eastern Indonesia, Prilly was so focused on conducting rescue simulations on other people that she forgot to equalize the pressure in her ear, resulting in genuine barotrauma from the strong currents of the sea. That detail matters. Rescue diver training is conducted in open water, at depth, under conditions that simulate real emergencies. The injury was not a film set accident. It was a genuine consequence of learning to save someone else's life underwater. And she continued.
What a Rescue Diver Is and Why the Role at Red Bull Bali Matters
A Rescue Diver is not a lifeguard. The distinction matters.
A Rescue Diver certification, issued by organizations including PADI and SSI, sits above Open Water and Advanced Open Water in the recreational diving hierarchy. It is the first certification that trains a diver not just to manage their own safety but to take responsibility for someone else's life underwater. The curriculum covers self-rescue, emergency management, panicked diver response, unconscious diver rescue from depth, and missing diver search patterns. Candidates must complete Emergency First Response training including CPR, AED use, and oxygen administration before certification is granted. Most certifying agencies require a minimum of 20 logged dives before training can begin.
At Red Bull Cliff Diving, the rescue diver is in the water during every single dive, positioned to respond before any other member of the safety team can reach an athlete in distress. Not on a boat. Not on the shore. In the water. Watching every launch. Ready for every entry.

Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series Bali 2026 T-Rex Cliff Kelingking Beach Nusa Penida Indonesia first time season opener
The 2026 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series launched its historic 17th season with the season opener in Bali, Indonesia, marking the first-ever visit to Indonesia. A total of 24 elite athletes plunged from heights of up to 27 meters at two iconic locations: Kroya Waterfall in Buleleng and the T-Rex Cliff in Nusa Penida.
Male divers jump from 27 meters and female divers from 21 meters, heights significantly higher than Olympic platforms. During each dive, athletes can reach speeds of up to 85 kilometers per hour. Each diver must perform complex flips and twists before entering the water vertically. Precision remains essential, and even a small mistake requires every athlete to maintain full control from takeoff to entry.
When that control is lost, when a diver surfaces unconscious or disoriented, the rescue diver is the first person in the water. That was Prilly Latuconsina's role at the first-ever Red Bull Cliff Diving event in Indonesia. And she was there not because she is famous. She was there because she is qualified.
Prilly shared the news through her personal social media with a sense of gratitude, saying she never imagined that her hobby in the world of diving, which she had been pursuing seriously, could bring her to this point.
The phrase pursuing seriously is doing a lot of work in that sentence. Rescue diver certification is not a hobby achievement. It is a technical qualification assessed through formal rescue simulations in open water. The fact that it was pursued seriously enough to result in a genuine injury during training, and then pursued further until the certification was earned, and then trusted by the Red Bull Cliff Diving team to place her in the water at their first-ever Indonesia event, is not a footnote to Prilly Latuconsina's career.
It is a second career running parallel to the first one.
Rhiannan Iffland won the women's competition in Bali, claiming the 46th win of her World Series career. The 2026 season continues at St. Petersburg, Florida on June 5 and 6.
