NUSANTARA, INDONESIAN FILM BY NEYRA VISION, WINS BEST DOCUMENTARY AT 2025 CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

Successfully carved an international achievement with an epic documentary that captivated the world

The Indonesian film Nusantara, produced by Neyra Vision, has won the Best Documentary Film award at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. With its exceptional production quality, including ultradensity resolution and a compelling storyline, the film captivated international audiences and stands out as one of Indonesia’s finest documentary thrillers.

Nusantara chronicles the life of Gajah Mada, a legendary hero of the Majapahit Kingdom, from his childhood to his appointment as Prime Minister by Maharani Tribhuwana Wijayatunggadewi. The film highlights Gajah Mada’s unwavering commitment to the Palapa Oath—a sacred vow to abstain from pleasure until the Nusantara archipelago, now the world’s largest island nation, was united. Through his relentless efforts, Gajah Mada succeeded in uniting much of Southeast Asia, extending beyond the present-day borders of Indonesia.

What makes this film truly groundbreaking is that it was entirely produced using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. It features impressive, large-scale battle scenes under Gajah Mada’s leadership. Neyra Vision, a Jakarta-based studio, crafted this masterpiece, earning worldwide acclaim at one of the film industry’s most prestigious festivals.

Narrated by Pitan Daslani, former editor of The Jakarta Post, the film’s success demonstrates the high level of Indonesian expertise in AI-driven film production. Daslani compares this achievement to the capabilities of top global film hubs such as Hollywood and Bollywood. He also expressed hope that this milestone will inspire more young Indonesian creators to produce AI-based films that showcase local stories on the world stage.

Creative producer Roma Nebo shared Neyra Vision’s mission to democratize filmmaking tools, which were once exclusive to Hollywood. His vision is to establish Indonesia as a global hub for AI cinema, enabling local storytellers to create and share their original works internationally.

The production of Nusantara involved key contributors such as Major General TNI Lukman Ma’ruf and Lieutenant Colonel Yudi as idea originators, with Helmy Yahya serving as executive producer, Indra Yudhistira as producer, and Roma Nebo as creative producer. Former Chief of the State Intelligence Agency General (retired) A.M. Hendropriyono portrayed Gajah Mada, while Devi Erna Rachmawati played Maharani Tribhuwana Wijayatunggadewi. The project also benefited from the expertise of historical consultants, a skilled director, and a dedicated AI production team.

This remarkable accomplishment marks a significant milestone for Indonesia’s film industry on the international stage. It proves that with advanced technology and rich local narratives, Indonesian cinema can compete and shine on the global platform.
