SUBLIMINAL MAYA: IN FLUX AND FORMS OF BEING — AN ART EXHIBITION INSPIRING AWARENESS AT RUCI ART SPACE

It is a captivating journey through identity, memory, and transformation, woven into bold visual expressions

RUCI Art Space, a leading hub for contemporary art in Jakarta, is currently hosting a thought-provoking exhibition titled Subliminal Maya: In Flux and Forms of Being. Running through June 29, 2025, the exhibition is located on the second floor of the building at Jalan Senayan 63–65, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. Curated by Sudjud Dartanto, it features works by three emerging Indonesian artists: Khadir Supartini, Kuncir Sathya Viku, and M.S. Alwi. The exhibition is open to the public from Wednesday to Monday, between 12:00 and 19:00.

Subliminal Maya delves into the evolving psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions of human experience. It portrays the world as a fluid and constantly shifting landscape, shaped by both personal and collective histories. Through a rich visual language inspired by rituals, mystical symbols, and social commentary, each artwork offers a reflection on inner spirituality, reimagined personal mythologies, and the search for meaning within postcolonial and marginalized identities.

Khadir Supartini’s large-scale charcoal paintings create a powerful sense of atmosphere, dark yet striking. Some of her works are accented with glowing neon lights, blending serious themes with playful elements that evoke the energy of a playground.

From Bali, Kuncir Sathya Viku incorporates traditional rerajahan symbols passed down through his family into his colorful canvases. His compositions also include modern-day imagery such as mobile phones and digital devices, creating a vibrant dialogue between the past and present.

M.S. Alwi, hailing from Banda Neira, presents soft sculptures made of paper clay that resemble totems or ancient artifacts. His pieces invite viewers to explore layers of memory, historical references, and cultural heritage that still resonate in today’s world.

More than just a visual experience, this exhibition offers a contemplative space for self-discovery and reflection. It encourages visitors to consider the complexities of identity, spiritual resilience, and the transformative power of art as a tool for healing and deeper understanding.

Subliminal Maya is open to the public from Wednesday to Monday, 12:00 to 19:00. For those in Jakarta, this exhibition is a meaningful stop—not only to enjoy visually compelling works, but also to engage in a journey of introspection and renewed awareness.
