INDONESIA DESIGN WEEK 2025 UNITES IDEAS AND IDENTITY IN A CELEBRATION OF CREATIVITY
A dynamic festival where creativity, culture, and collaboration converge to shape the future of global design
Indonesia Design Week (IDW), the flagship event of Indonesia Design District (IDD) PIK2, has been underway since September 12 and continues until September 20, 2025. In its opening days, the event has already drawn strong attention from the creative community, presenting nine days filled with inspiration that combine ideas, identity, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
More than just an annual event, IDW reflects the broader vision of IDD to evolve from a commercial retail destination into a vibrant creative hub. Guided by the principle of Crafting Connection, Inspiring Tomorrow, IDW positions itself as a collaborative ecosystem that welcomes designers, architects, and the wider creative community.
This year’s theme, Ideantity, merges the concepts of idea and identity. It encourages design practitioners to rediscover Indonesia’s distinctive character while presenting it within the global design dialogue. Indonesia is increasingly recognized not only as a consumer but also as an active contributor with a confident and unique voice.
Similar to Milan, London, and Tokyo with their design weeks, IDW brings a distinctive perspective shaped by Indonesia’s regional context and cultural diversity. This is expressed through immersive installations born from collaborations between international brands and Indonesian designers. Among the participating names are SMEG, Snaidero, KOHLER, BOSCH, and MM Galleri.
IDW also provides a stage for local designers and creative collectives to showcase experimental exhibitions. These presentations spark dialogue, challenge conventional design boundaries, and highlight fresh perspectives from Indonesia. To further engage young talent, the program includes guided tours and student exhibitions that showcase innovative projects and bold ideas from emerging designers.
Adding a playful touch to the festival, the Firm Office Grand Prix returns for its second edition. As Indonesia’s first office chair race, it blends creativity with fun while fostering camaraderie among both participants and spectators.
IDW 2025 also emphasizes social contribution. Through the Sip C Tip program hosted by BIKA Living, designers and brand owners serve as bartenders, with all tips collected going directly to support local communities in need.
To extend its reach beyond PIK2, a satellite exhibition is being held at ASHTA Mall. Daily shuttle services are provided to connect both venues, ensuring accessibility for visitors. The event also features the presence of influential international figures from Milan, Paris, and New York, who are actively taking part in discussions and collaborations with Indonesia’s creative industry.
With its diverse and engaging program, Indonesia Design Week 2025 continues to strengthen its role as a platform that bridges ideas, identity, and the future of design.
