ARTISTS AUCTION WORKS AT ART JAKARTA 2024 FOR A SHELTER HOUSE

Carving out hope for the future that radiates soul and humanitarian values

Art Jakarta 2024, which took place last weekend at JIExpo Kemayoran in Central Jakarta, has become an event that not only showcases the beauty of art but also highlights social responsibility. In this event, works by renowned artists such as Arifin Neif, Abenk Alter, Muklay, and Darbotz were auctioned for a noble cause: the construction of a shelter house for families of pediatric patients.

Muklay and the Honesty of Childhood

One of the participating artists is Muklay, who donated his work titled “I Wish I Had Honesty Like My Childhood.” In this piece, Muklay explores diverse childhood experiences and the value of honesty in drawing. He states that as an adult artist, the creative process often obscures that honesty.

“Being an artist as an adult is very far from honesty. The abundance of references, searching for issues to create a good concept, and covering up mistakes while working on a painting,” Muklay explained. He added, “The phase of scribbling is the most honest phase when a person draws.” By using a dinosaur image that holds sentimental value for him, Muklay strives to restore the honesty of childhood in his work. This painting was opened with a starting bid of Rp90 million.

Darbotz's Work and the Hybrid Survival Concept

Graffiti artist Darbotz also contributed his work titled “Hybrid Survival.” This piece, measuring 180 x 150 centimeters, was auctioned with a starting price of Rp110 million. Darbotz’s work reflects a blend of modern life and ecological sustainability, demonstrating the importance of preserving the environment while creating space for creative expression.

Abenk Alter and the Amusement Park Concept

Another participating artist, Abenk Alter, presented a work titled “Ke Taman Ria.” In his piece, Abenk proposes the idea of reimagining a children's hospital concept as an amusement park. He believes that health is not only limited to physical aspects but also includes mental well-being.

“Considering that health is not just about physicality. Mens sana in corpore sano, 'A healthy mind in a healthy body.' Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the mental and emotional condition of children in the healing process by creating a joyful play environment,” Abenk stated. This work was also auctioned with a starting price of Rp110 million.

Collaboration with RMHC Foundation

Art Jakarta 2024 collaborated with the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Foundation in the effort to build the shelter house. This shelter will be the fourth for RMHC, located in Kemanggisan, West Jakarta, and is intended for families of pediatric patients at Harapan Kita Heart Hospital. This shelter is expected to provide comfort and support families in accompanying children undergoing treatment for chronic illnesses.

Sowing Hope Through Art

The auction of art pieces at Art Jakarta 2024 is not just a moment to celebrate creativity; it also serves as a reminder of the importance of caring for others. By participating in this initiative, the artists not only showcase their talents but also contribute to a noble mission that will positively impact many families.

This event demonstrates that art has the power to unite and drive positive change in society, successfully creating a synergy between art and humanity, paving the way for a better future for many people.
