ART JAKARTA 2025: A CELEBRATION OF COLLABORATION AND THE VIBRANT ENERGY OF CREATIVITY

A vibrant convergence of imagination, culture, and innovation that redefines the pulse of contemporary art in Asia

Indonesia’s most anticipated art fair, Art Jakarta 2025, opened on October 3 at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, and concluded on October 5, 2025. The event highlighted the vitality and resilience of Southeast Asia’s art scene, featuring 75 leading galleries from 16 countries. This year’s edition offered a diverse program of special presentations, cross-sector collaborations, and strong support from numerous partners, reaffirming its role as one of the region’s foremost centers of art and culture.

Now in its sixth edition since rebranding in 2019, Art Jakarta has continued to strengthen its identity as a platform driven by Indonesia’s creative community. The opening ceremony was a lively celebration that included a performance by the Padjadjaran University Choir and was officially inaugurated by Minister of Culture Fadli Zon and Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya, together with several government officials and art figures.

Distinguished guests from the private sector were also present, including representatives from MRA Group, Julius Baer, BCA, Treasury, and Stockbit-Bibit. Their attendance reflected a shared commitment to supporting and sustaining the regional art ecosystem. In his remarks, Minister Fadli Zon emphasized that Art Jakarta was not merely an art fair but a collective space to celebrate Indonesia’s creative strength while reinforcing the nation’s position as the creative hub of Southeast Asia.

Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya highlighted the significant role of visual art in advancing Indonesia’s creative economy, contributing not only economic value but also national identity and international connections. Support from partners such as Julius Baer, Treasury, Stockbit-Bibit, and BCA demonstrated how business and art can intersect to create meaningful collaborations that benefit society.

After the opening ceremony, two performance art presentations captivated audiences: “luckily there’s no inside (with friendly ghost)” by Ardi Gunawan and “PLUNGE” by Victoria Kosasie in collaboration with Marleigh Belsley, presented respectively by ISA Art Gallery and SEWU SATU.

The fair was further strengthened by its Lead Partners, who showcased works by renowned artists including Eddie Hara, Agus Suwage, Azizi Al Majid–Nuri Fatimah, Muklay, and Palette Studio. These works explored social and cultural themes that resonate with today’s audiences. Additional contributions came from SUPERMUSIC, iForte Energy, TACO, Design: Jakarta, Oasis, % Arabica, Silverbird, and Artotel Group, all of which demonstrated how creativity enhances everyday life.

Art Jakarta 2025 featured several major segments. SPOT presented large-scale installations by Indonesian artists working across various media, such as Ipeh Nur, Aditya Novali, and Adi Gunawan. SCENE served as a platform for 33 artist collectives from different Indonesian cities to showcase innovative projects, while AJX connected institutions and corporations through three main programs, including Korea Focus and Rising Current, curated by Agung Hujatnika.

Additionally, AJ Talk provided a space for discussions among artists, collectors, curators, and the public. The introduction of Art Jakarta Papers 2026 also offered new perspectives on the creative possibilities of paper-based art.

With its expanding reach and deepening collaborations, Art Jakarta 2025 stood as more than an exhibition. It became a symbol of collective creativity in Southeast Asia, fostering cultural connections, sustaining artistic dialogue, and opening new pathways for the next generation of artists.
