55TH ANNUAL CHARITY BAZAAR OF WOMEN'S INTERNATIONAL CLUB JAKARTA: GLOBAL UNITY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
A vibrant gathering that unites diverse cultures and supports meaningful social causes through charitable efforts and community connections
The Women’s International Club (WIC) Jakarta hosted its 55th Annual Charity Bazaar from November 13 to 14, 2023, at the Jakarta Convention Center, Hall B. This highly anticipated event not only brought excitement but also highlighted social and cultural significance, making it a key occasion for the international community in Indonesia. The bazaar offered a unique platform for cultural exchange and charity.
The event was officially opened by Mrs. Selvi Gibran Rakabuming, representing the Vice President of Indonesia, alongside Mrs. Maidawati Retnoningsih Samsudin, the wife of the Acting Governor of Lampung. Their presence added an extra layer of prestige to the event, which aimed to raise funds for various social programs. The Lampung Provincial Government stall also participated, showcasing the region’s traditional woven fabrics, local food, and crafts while promoting Lampung’s tourism.
A Celebration of Cultural Diversity
What sets the WIC Charity Bazaar apart is its celebration of cultural diversity, with embassies from numerous nations sharing their unique traditions, products, and customs. With 42 international stalls and 225 business stalls offering a range of fascinating items, the event was a true cultural showcase.
The food and beverage stalls added flavor to the bazaar, presenting cuisines from all over the world. In addition, charity stalls served the important cause of supporting those in need. The opening performance, the "Selinggang Alam" dance from Lampung, beautifully highlighted Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage and nature.
Supporting a Noble Cause
Beyond the shopping and cultural displays, the WIC Charity Bazaar was also a vital fundraising event. Proceeds from the stalls support WIC’s social missions, including monthly aid for orphanages and senior homes, as well as scholarships for students at state universities. A key contributor to the fundraising efforts was the White Elephant stall, which sold pre-loved items donated by WIC members. All proceeds from this stall went to support various institutions committed to community welfare, including 3 senior homes and 6 orphanages.
This year’s bazaar set a sales target of over IDR 110 million, aiming to surpass the impressive results of the previous year. The goal was not only to meet a financial target but also to raise awareness and inspire greater participation in social initiatives that directly impact those in need.
Fostering Social Awareness and Global Solidarity
As an organization dedicated to social progress, WIC’s Annual Charity Bazaar provided a meaningful opportunity for women from around the world to come together, build friendships, and exchange ideas. The event also helped strengthen international solidarity, fostering a deeper understanding of various cultures and traditions. WIC hopes that the event will inspire more people to contribute to charitable causes, whether through participation or donations.
A Tradition of Giving and Unity
The 55th Annual WIC Charity Bazaar exemplifies the power of helping others and promoting cultural awareness to create a positive societal impact. Looking ahead, WIC plans to continue this cherished tradition, aiming to broaden its reach and increase its social impact in the years to come.
With a spirit of unity and social responsibility, the 55th Annual Charity Bazaar of WIC Jakarta successfully brought together diverse communities, celebrated global cultures, and raised much-needed funds for vital social programs.
