Arup, the global engineering and design firm, has announced new leadership appointments for its East Asia Region. The move is aimed at strengthening Arup's commitment to creating a sustainable future for the region.
Andy Lee, who has served as the region's COO for the past six years, has been appointed as the East Asia Region Chair. In his previous role, he successfully led a team of 3,400 professionals across 15 offices, achieving strong performance during a challenging period. Lee is also a recognized expert in façade design and has spearheaded the delivery of innovative solutions on high-profile projects throughout the region. He has been instrumental in driving digital innovation and development, including the creation of the AI-powered smart building console Neuron.
Lee also serves on Arup's Group Board, providing insights and connections at the global level, which enables the company to deliver leading solutions for clients as a truly global firm.
Commenting on his appointment, Lee said, "As East Asia is home to some of the world's most vulnerable cities to climate change impacts, Arup is committed to expanding our capabilities to push for more sustainable outcomes in all our work. We will harness digital solutions to provide insights on where to start and how to progress towards a more sustainable future for the region."
James Sze has been named as the Region COO, bringing with him over 28 years of experience in the design and delivery of complex infrastructure projects across the region. Sze is highly regarded in the field as a geotechnical engineer and has provided innovative solutions, such as the design of a piled raft foundation for the 555m tall Lotte World Tower. His expertise has diversified over the years, with recent projects including a mega-scale planning and engineering study for the Hong Kong government that aims to create a future city embracing carbon neutrality and resilience.
Sze, who is the former Chairman of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Hong Kong, currently serves on various government, professional, and university committees, where he influences policymaking and industry practice to advance sustainable development and the betterment of the consulting sector. Sze will work alongside Lee to drive sustainable development in the East Asia Region.
