SEMAJA JAKARTA: THE RESTAURANT LISA FOUND DURING EXTRACTION

SEMAJA in Menteng is ISMAYA Group's first Indonesian concept, Tatler Best Indonesia 2026 winner, and the restaurant Lisa visited during Extraction Tygo filming in Jakarta.

When BLACKPINK's Lisa was in Jakarta from December 2025 to March 2026, filming Extraction: Tygo at locations across the city from Kota Tua to Baronk Cafe in Kemang, she had downtime. And at some point during that downtime, she ended up at SEMAJA.

The internet noticed. The restaurant's name trended. And for anyone who had already been paying attention to Jakarta's dining scene, the reaction was less surprise and more: of course she went there.

SEMAJA is the first Indonesian concept restaurant from ISMAYA Group, the company behind some of Jakarta's most significant dining institutions. It opened in Menteng in 2023. By 2026 it had made Tatler Best Indonesia's list of the 20 best restaurants in the country. Lisa's visit did not make the restaurant. The restaurant had already made itself. Lisa just confirmed what Jakarta's food community already knew.

If you have been following Indonesia's growing presence on the global cultural and lifestyle stage in 2026, SEMAJA is the dining version of that argument: an Indonesian restaurant that does not need to explain itself to anyone.

What SEMAJA Actually Is

SEMAJA is the first restaurant by ISMAYA Group to embrace an Indonesian concept. It presents authentic Nusantara cuisine in a modern and elegant style.

ISMAYA Group's portfolio includes some of the most internationally recognized dining brands in Indonesia: Henshin, Social House, and Skye, among others. All of them are primarily Western or international in concept. SEMAJA is the first time the group turned that same level of production value and design intelligence toward Indonesian cuisine itself.

Located at Jalan Gereja Theresia No. 41, Menteng, Central Jakarta, SEMAJA is a hidden gem in the city's dining scene, a new culinary destination that beautifully combines flavor, aesthetics, and culture in one space. Its interiors blend traditional elements such as batik motifs with contemporary craftsmanship, highlighted by the use of wood that evokes understated luxury and familiarity.

Beyond its main dining hall, the restaurant features an Indoor Garden, a lush space lined with living greenery and tiered seating, offering a tranquil and intimate dining experience. For private events or business meetings, SEMAJA also provides two exclusive VIP rooms equipped with multimedia facilities.

The menu, led by Executive Chef Glenn Erari, covers the width of the Indonesian archipelago rather than fixating on one regional tradition. The menu offers inventive takes on traditional dishes, such as Wagyu Sate Maranggi and Ayam Bom Banjarmasin. The full menu spans Ayam Bakar Bom from Banjarmasin, Sate Ayam Bumbu Kacang from Madura, Sate Maranggi from Sukabumi, Ikan Barramundi Bakar from Kedonganan Bali, Iga Bakar Sambal Hijau from Padang, Iga Konro Bakar from Makassar, Sate Buntel Wagyu from Solo, Perut Tuna Bakar from Morotai, and Sei Sapi Sambal Luat from Kupang. The menu is a map of the archipelago expressed through fire, smoke, and the specific spice profiles that make Indonesian cuisine one of the most complex in the world.

SEMAJA is born out of a deep-seated passion for Indonesia's diverse culture, embodying a pride and admiration for their beloved nation's rich heritage that deserves to be celebrated. They believe that food is a reflection of their identity, which is why they strive to create an extraordinary culinary experience that captures the essence of our nation and identity.

Why Lisa Went There and What It Means for the Restaurant

Lisa was in Jakarta for almost four months, from December 8, 2025 to March 30, 2026, filming Extraction: Tygo at locations including Kota Tua, Baronk Cafe in Kemang, and Karst Citatah in West Java, alongside cast members Ma Dong-seok from Train to Busan and Lee Jin-wook from Squid Game.

During that time, she was spotted at Senayan City, Pacific Place, the St. Regis Jakarta bar, and SEMAJA. Of all the places a globally recognized artist could choose for a quiet dinner in Jakarta, she chose an Indonesian restaurant in Menteng. That is not a random decision. It is the kind of decision that comes from a recommendation, from someone who knows the city, or from the specific kind of curiosity that makes you want to eat the actual food of the place you are living in for four months rather than the food you already know.

Tatler Asia named SEMAJA one of the 20 best restaurants in Indonesia in 2026, describing it as a sanctuary where Indonesian heritage is given new life. Inside earthy interiors with batik-patterned walls, Executive Chef Glenn Erari skillfully reinterprets classic Nusantara dishes with modern precision.

The restaurant's place on the Tatler Best Indonesia 2026 list predates Lisa's visit. The recognition was already there. What the visit did was extend it to a global audience that follows Lisa's movements across social media more closely than any food critic's review.
