INDONESIA SECURES 12 AWARDS AT ASEAN TOURISM FORUM 2026, REINFORCING ITS LEADERSHIP IN SUSTAINABLE TOURISM
A regional milestone highlighting Indonesia’s commitment to quality, sustainability, and collaboration, while transforming tourism standards into real, measurable impact
Indonesia has reaffirmed its role in advancing regional tourism by securing 12 awards at the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2026, held from 27 to 31 January 2026. This achievement highlights the country’s continued commitment to developing tourism that is high quality, sustainable, and competitive across the ASEAN region. Beyond its reputation as a popular destination, Indonesia is increasingly recognized as a benchmark for environmentally responsible tourism management.
At the ASEAN Tourism Standards Award 2026, Indonesia received honors across three key categories. In the ASEAN Green Hotel Award category, five Indonesian hotels were recognized: Mandarin Oriental Jakarta, Hotel Borobudur Jakarta, AYANA Resort Bali, Novotel Suites Yogyakarta Malioboro, and THE 101 Yogyakarta Tugu. These accolades reflect the hospitality sector’s efforts to integrate environmentally friendly practices without compromising service quality or guest comfort.
Indonesia also earned five awards in the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award category, awarded to Malang City, Surakarta City, Bukittinggi City, Gianyar Regency, and Tomohon City. The recognition emphasizes the role of cleanliness, good governance, and urban management in creating enjoyable tourism experiences while also improving the well-being of local residents.
Two further awards were received through the ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Award. Bogor Botanical Gardens was recognized in the urban category, while Tenun Sumba Prai Ijing received the award in the rural category. Both examples demonstrate how sustainable tourism can be achieved through environmental conservation alongside the preservation of local culture and support for community based economies.
Beyond the awards, Indonesia also played an active role in the ASEAN Travel Exchange (ATF TRAVEX) 2026, held from 28 to 30 January 2026 at the Mactan Expo Center in Cebu, the Philippines. Through the Wonderful Indonesia Pavilion under the theme Go Beyond Ordinary, the country showcased a diverse range of tourism offerings developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Manila, and industry partners. The promotion highlighted experience driven tourism, including marine tourism, wellness, gastronomy, premium travel, and Muslim friendly tourism.
Looking ahead, Indonesia hopes that the ASEAN Tourism Forum will continue to strengthen collaboration and connectivity among ASEAN member states, supporting the growth of a more integrated and sustainable regional tourism sector.
