An extraordinary celebration of endurance and passion, where every stride turns determination into triumph

Borobudur Marathon 2025 returns with renewed enthusiasm under the inspiring theme “Stride to Glory,” a call to take bold steps, break boundaries, and discover the true meaning behind every stride. More than just a race, it represents a journey of awakening, courage, and self-achievement.

This annual running event, organized by the Central Java Provincial Government, Bank Jateng, the Borobudur Marathon Foundation, and Harian Kompas, will be held on November 16, 2025, at the Borobudur Temple complex in Magelang, Central Java. A total of 10,500 runners will take part in three main categories: 10K, Half Marathon, and Marathon.

This year, Borobudur Marathon celebrates a proud milestone as it officially earns the Elite Label status from World Athletics, solidifying its reputation as a world-class event. The recognition marks a significant step in elevating the quality of the race and strengthening its global appeal.

Interest from runners continues to rise, with 208 international participants from 28 countries set to join. Many come from Southeast Asia, including Malaysia and Singapore, while others travel from Africa, such as Kenya and Ethiopia. The growing presence of international runners reflects Borobudur Marathon’s expanding global recognition.

For 2025, the organizers have introduced a new route that showcases the beauty of traditional villages and the scenic Menoreh Hills. Designed for both comfort and visual delight, the route offers runners an immersive experience of Central Java’s natural charm and rich culture. As part of its Elite Label certification, the route meets international standards and features at least five elite male and five elite female runners who have earned a minimum of 1,115 points on the World Athletics scoring table.

Further enhancements include an upgraded prize structure, rewarding up to the top eight finishers in accordance with international athletic standards. Minimum qualifying times have also been set for marathon participants: 2 hours 12 minutes 47 seconds for men and 2 hours 31 minutes 50 seconds for women, achieved within 2023 to 2025.

In addition to the main race, Borobudur Marathon 2025 will feature several side events such as The Tour, Friendship Run, Pasar Harmoni, Young Talent, and the grand Race Day celebration.
