ARTJOG 2025: MOTIF AMALAN - EMBRACING ART AS A MEANINGFUL ACT OF KINDNESS

A vibrant arena of artistic reflection, where visual wonder meets purposeful expression and inclusivity thrives

ARTJOG 2025 is currently being held at the Jogja National Museum in Yogyakarta, running from June 20 to August 31, 2025. This year’s theme, Motif Amalan, marks the conclusion of the “Motif” curatorial trilogy led by Hendro Wiyanto, following the previous editions titled Motif Lamaran (2023) and Motif Ramalan (2024). Through this theme, ARTJOG invites the public to explore art not only as a visual experience but as a meaningful and purposeful act of goodness.

The main exhibition features 47 participating artists, including two commissioned contributors: Anusapati from Yogyakarta and REcycle EXPerience from Bandung. Both present newly developed works that reflect in-depth artistic exploration. Visitors are also treated to special collaborative projects from Murakabi Movement (Yogyakarta), Ruang Rupa (Jakarta), and Devfto Printmaking Institute (Bali), which enrich the overall exhibition experience.

One of the standout programs this year is Spotlight, which celebrates the 20-year journey of actor Reza Rahardian in the performing arts. The centerpiece of this program is an installation titled Eudaimonia, created through a multidisciplinary collaboration between Reza and a group of prominent artists, including Garin Nugroho, Siko Setyanto, Aditya Surya Taruna, Andra Matin, Davy Linggar, and Retno Ratih Damayanti.

Beyond being a platform for artistic expression, ARTJOG 2025 also continues to strengthen its commitment to inclusivity through the Love ARTJOG initiative. Launched in 2021, this program ensures accessibility for people with disabilities while also encouraging their active involvement in exhibitions and performances. Dedicated curatorial tours with special assistance are provided for children and differently abled visitors.

The ARTJOG Kids program makes a return this year, engaging 44 children and teenagers in creative workshops and activities. Meanwhile, adult audiences can take part in Curatorial Tours, interact directly with artists through Meet the Artist sessions, enjoy a variety of art performances, and join community-centered programs like Artcare Indonesia and Jogja Art Weeks.

ARTJOG 2025 stands as a collaborative space where art is celebrated in all its dimensions, as a conscious action, a moment of reflection, and an expression of empathy. It offers a valuable opportunity to deepen the role of art in everyday life and within society at large.
