THE APURVA KEMPINSKI BALI PROMOTES INCLUSIVITY AND RESILIENCE THROUGH GALLERY OF ART: ARTS BEYOND BOUNDARIES
An exclusive exhibition by Diego Berel, showcasing his resilience through adversity
In a powerful celebration of creativity and resilience, The Apurva Kempinski Bali has taken another significant step toward promoting inclusivity and equality. The resort’s commitment to showcasing local talents while celebrating Indonesia's diversity is exemplified through its collaboration with Diego Berel, a talented Indonesian artist known for his resilience. From November 29, 2024, visitors can explore Gallery of Art: Arts Beyond Boundaries at the resort's Pendopo Lobby, an exhibition that invites reflection on overcoming adversity and igniting the fighting spirit within us.
Diego Berel, a young painter born in Jakarta, uses bold, vibrant colors to communicate his life experiences and the cultural richness of his heritage. His passion for art, which was nurtured from a young age, stems from both his father’s artistic influence and his upbringing in South Jakarta. Berel’s work, which has been showcased internationally in cities like London, Los Angeles, and Tokyo, is largely inspired by the culture of Adonara in East Nusa Tenggara, his mother’s birthplace. Through abstract paintings that reflect nature and society, Diego’s art serves as a visual testament to resilience—transforming life’s challenges into a celebration of strength and passion.
In addition to Diego's paintings, Gallery of Art: Arts Beyond Boundaries features two eco-conscious art installations created by local artisans using recycled materials. These avant-garde pieces—Axis of Greed and The Synergy of Divine Gifts—explore human behavior and the interconnectedness of society and the environment. Axis of Greed serves as a powerful warning about humanity's impact on nature, while The Synergy of Divine Gifts encourages reflection on the complexity and harmony of the human body, promoting gratitude and responsible living.
The exhibition’s opening event included an interactive discussion with key organizations dedicated to supporting the disability community in Bali. These organizations include Annika Linden Centre, Yayasan Peduli Kemanusiaan Bali, PUSPADI Bali, and DNetwork Bali, all of which share The Apurva Kempinski Bali's commitment to providing equal opportunities for individuals to thrive. The event's speakers emphasized the importance of creating spaces that celebrate the talents and resilience of all, regardless of challenges.
Further adding to the event's impact was a performance by hard-of-hearing dancers from Kitapoleng Bali, who showcased the dance Nguripang Jiwa. This performance, which tells the story of rhythm and movement in a universe of silence, beautifully conveyed how adversity can be transformed into a source of creativity and strength. The dancers found rhythm not in sound, but in their movements, demonstrating that silence is not the end, but the beginning of limitless possibilities.
Vincent Guironnet, General Manager of The Apurva Kempinski Bali, expressed the resort's dedication to promoting inclusivity and equal opportunity for all talents. He emphasized that this exhibition, through the collaboration with Diego Berel and the engagement with local organizations, embodies the spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika—the unity in diversity that is central to Indonesia’s national identity.
Through initiatives like Gallery of Art: Arts Beyond Boundaries, The Apurva Kempinski Bali continues to empower individuals and celebrate resilience, reminding us that, with determination, we can transform barriers into achievements.
