An immersive evening of refined flavors and cultural storytelling that brought Thailand’s culinary heritage to life in an intimate setting

The Department of International Trade Promotion Thailand DITP under the Ministry of Commerce Thailand presented a special culinary event titled Thai SELECT A Journey Through the Thai Kingdom on 13 February 2026 at Chao Phraya Restaurant in Wijaya South Jakarta. The evening gathered diplomats ambassadors media representatives key opinion leaders VIP guests and invited attendees for an elegant celebration of the regional diversity and authenticity of Thai cuisine.

The event was led by His Excellency Mr Prapan Disyata Ambassador of Thailand to Indonesia. The choice of Chao Phraya Restaurant as the venue held particular meaning. As a Thai SELECT certified restaurant Chao Phraya plays a significant role in supporting DITP ongoing efforts to raise public awareness of the official certification awarded to restaurants that uphold the quality standards and authentic flavors of Thai cuisine.

Mrs Onny Almahsyur Owner of Chao Phraya Restaurant and Honorary Consul of Thailand in Surabaya warmly welcomed the guests and invited them to enjoy a six course fine dining experience that reflected the richness of culinary traditions from across Thailand.

The journey began with Khao Soi a Northern Thai chicken curry noodle soup served with crispy noodles. This was followed by Poonim Yum Som O a Central Thai pomelo salad paired with deep fried soft shell crab and fresh lime juice. The soup course featured Leng Saap a bold and spicy beef bone broth from Northeastern Thailand known for its intense flavors and generous use of fresh herbs and chilies.

For the main courses guests were served Pla Sam Rod a Central Thai deep fried snapper accompanied by the country signature three flavored sauce combining sweet sour and salty notes. Goong Yang grilled prawns from Southern Thailand were also presented with a traditional seafood dipping sauce. The evening concluded with Khao Nieo Mamuang the classic Thai mango sticky rice topped with fragrant pandan infused coconut milk.

Signature beverages such as Nam Anchan Purple Rain made from butterfly pea flower and fruit complemented the menu. White wine and mineral water were also carefully selected to enhance the overall dining experience.

Beyond the seated dinner the event featured live cooking demonstrations and canapé presentations in the lobby area led by the culinary team of Chao Phraya Restaurant. On the main stage a special demonstration for the Ambassador of Thailand highlighted traditional cooking techniques authentic ingredients and refined presentation. This interactive session allowed guests to gain deeper insight into the high standards maintained by Thai SELECT restaurants.

Mr Kumtornpol Buapatch Deputy Director of Thai Trade Center Jakarta stated that the Thai SELECT program not only shares recipes but also promotes authenticity culinary techniques and cultural pride. Through this event DITP aims to strengthen recognition of Thai SELECT restaurants in Indonesia build confidence in their quality and encourage more Thai restaurants to pursue certification.
