Indonesia has strengthened its reputation as a leading global gastronomic destination after receiving the New Destination Champion Award 2026 at the Annual La Liste Awards Ceremony. This recognition highlights the country’s rapid culinary development and its potential as a destination with a unique and diverse food heritage, making it essential for gastronomy enthusiasts worldwide.
The Annual La Liste Awards Ceremony is a prestigious event organized by La Liste in collaboration with the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. This year’s ceremony marked the 10th anniversary of La Liste and was held over two days, November 23 to 24, 2025. It was attended by prominent international figures, including former prime ministers, ministers, renowned gastronomes, and chefs from around the world. The French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, and the Ambassador of France, Philippe Faure, President of La Liste, served as hosts for the event.
Each year, La Liste publishes the World’s Top 1000 Best Restaurants list and presents Special Awards to individuals, restaurants, and countries that have made notable contributions to global gastronomy. Indonesia’s recognition positions the country as a prominent culinary guide, digitally accessible to gourmet travelers worldwide.
As part of this acknowledgment, two Indonesian restaurants were named Gastronomy Ambassadors, showcasing the excellence of Indonesian cuisine internationally. Rumari – Raffles Bali, led by Chef Gaetan Biesuz, was selected as the top representative from Bali and made its debut in the World’s Top 1000 Best Restaurants 2026. Esa Restaurant in Jakarta, represented by Chef Aditya Muskita, was also recognized for exemplifying the culinary quality of the capital.
This achievement not only strengthens Indonesia’s position on the global culinary map but also provides a platform to highlight the rich diversity of the nation’s gastronomy. It is expected to foster collaboration with the global culinary ecosystem while promoting wider recognition and appreciation of local flavors.
Receiving the New Destination Champion Award 2026 symbolizes Indonesia’s success in developing innovative, diverse, and world-class gastronomy. It underscores that Indonesian cuisine represents more than food—it is an essential part of the country’s cultural identity with the ability to shine on the international stage.
