A Spectacular Showcase of Global Contemporary Art in the Heart of Basel

Art Basel, the original and unparalleled art event in Basel, has returned with its exhibition from June 13-16, 2024. With successful editions in Miami and Hong Kong, and the newly highlighted Paris event now on every collector's radar, Messeplatz Basel has transformed into an awe-inspiring venue showcasing the finest artworks, complemented by a variety of additional programs promising delightful experiences.

More than just an art exhibition, Art Basel offers an impressive and profound art experience for its visitors. This year, under the direction of Maike Cruse, a seasoned director from Gallery Weekend Berlin, the event features expansive and entertaining curatorial extensions. This includes the expanded Parcours public art program, which spans along Clarastrasse with 22 site-specific installations connecting the fairgrounds to the Rhine River.

The exhibition also introduces Hauser & Wirth, the Swiss art giant, marking its inaugural permanent space in Basel within a 19th-century former ribbon factory in the Old Town. In this intimate setting, Hauser & Wirth collaborates with Galerie Knoell to showcase works by artists such as Méret Oppenheim and Georges Vantongerloo, reinforcing the historical and contemporary art market through exhibitions, publications, and art projects.

At Messeplatz Basel, visitors can explore monumental works by Agnes Denes, a 93-year-old environmental artist presenting "Honouring Wheatfield - a Confrontation". This project replicates her pioneering work from Battery Park, Manhattan, 42 years ago. Over 200 galleries from around the globe, including 22 newcomers, fill the exhibition halls with artworks exploring various mediums and artistic concepts.

Meanwhile, Fondation Beyeler, with its Renzo Piano-designed glass and brick building, joins the celebration of contemporary art with the exhibition "Cloud Chronicles". Featuring 30 contemporary creators collaborating with works from Beyeler's permanent collection, this exhibition promises a unique and engaging art experience for all visitors.
