ESTABLISHING INDONESIA'S GLOBAL MODEST STYLE THROUGH JAKARTA MUSLIM FASHION WEEK 2025

Uncover how the world of modest style is being shaped, unlocking new opportunities for growth and international recognition

The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) is once again hosting the annual Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2024 and Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week (JMFW) 2025 at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Banten. The event, which commenced on Wednesday, October 9-12, 2024, is expected to serve as a major driver for the development of Indonesia's modest fashion industry and gain global attention.

The Director General of National Export Development at Kemendag, Mardiana Listyowati, has set a business transaction target of USD 3 million for this year’s JMFW, equivalent to IDR 46.8 billion (at an exchange rate of USD 1 = IDR 15,626). "The focus of JMFW is to drive business transactions. We are aiming for a USD 3 million transaction this year," said Mardiana.

To achieve this target, Kemendag is working closely with Indonesian representatives abroad, including Trade Representatives (Perwadag), to attract potential international buyers. Some of the primary target markets include Japan, the United States, Egypt, Australia, and Mexico. With strong collaboration among all parties, it is hoped that this cooperation will expand the reach of Indonesia’s modest fashion in global markets.

The Necessary Collaboration and Synergy

Mardiana also emphasized that JMFW’s success cannot be achieved without support and collaboration from various parties. “The success of JMFW would not be possible without the support of all related parties. We are very grateful to everyone who has contributed to this event,” said Mardiana.

Focusing on strengthening the modest fashion ecosystem is also a key aspect of JMFW. By reinforcing the value chain of the modest fashion industry, Indonesia aims to solidify its position as a major player in this sector.

Indonesia as the Global Modest Fashion Hub

On the same occasion, Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan expressed his hope that Indonesia can become the global hub for modest fashion. “Compared to other countries, Indonesia's fashion products are rich in designs, colors, and other variations,” said Zulkifli. According to him, with the richness of Indonesia’s fashion industry, the country has great potential to become a global modest fashion center.

"We hope that Indonesia can become the global hub for modest wear. To achieve this, the participation of all parties is crucial. The key is cooperation,” he added.

Opportunities for Local Exporters

Kemendag also invites local exporters to take advantage of the opportunities offered by TEI 2024. With a business-to-business (B2B) format, TEI serves as an ideal platform for exporters to meet directly with potential buyers from various countries. For TEI 2024, Kemendag has set a target of USD 15 billion in transactions, with 1,000 participants taking part in the event.

As the largest exhibition in Indonesia, TEI is divided into three main product zones: Food, Beverage, and Agricultural Products; Manufacture Products; and Home Living, Fashion, and Services. In addition, TEI will feature a variety of supporting activities such as business matching, business counseling, international seminars, live performances, and a buyers' night. All of these are designed to facilitate wider networking and business cooperation between exporters and buyers.

Expanding Indonesia's Export Reach

TEI is not only an event to introduce Indonesia's export products but also aims to penetrate markets that have not yet been the primary focus. With the global economy facing a slowdown, expanding into new markets is essential to boosting Indonesia's non-oil and gas export performance.

The 39th edition of TEI showcases Kemendag's commitment to expanding the market share of Indonesian products globally and strengthening Indonesia's position as a leading player in various sectors, including the modest fashion industry through JMFW.
