Step into a dazzling world of mirrors, light, and endless reflections

Jakarta once again serves as the temporary home for one of the most iconic installations in the world of contemporary art. Infinity Mirrored Room – Brilliance of the Souls by Yayoi Kusama is currently on display and open to the public at Museum MACAN, having opened on May 24 and running through October 5, 2025. This installation is part of Kusama's Infinity Mirrored Room series, which she has been developing since 1965 and has presented in more than 20 versions worldwide.

Located in the Sculpture Garden area, Brilliance of the Souls offers visitors an immersive experience that merges space, light, and reflection. Surrounded by mirrors on all sides and illuminated by colorful LED lights arranged in rhythmic patterns, the room creates a mesmerizing visual illusion that embodies the concept of infinity, a central theme in Kusama's artistic practice. Museum MACAN first introduced Yayoi Kusama’s work in 2017, and the installation has since consistently received an enthusiastic response. In this 2025 edition, the piece is displayed alongside a significant work by Jeff Koons titled Baroque Egg with Bow (pink/gold), which is being exhibited at the museum for the first time, further enriching the artistic experience in this shared public space.

The return of Infinity Mirrored Room also underscores the continued creative vitality of Yayoi Kusama, who is now 96 years old. She remains actively engaged in her artmaking, as demonstrated by her most recent 2023 creation: a large stainless steel flower sculpture adorned with her signature polka dots, titled I Spend Each Day Embracing Flowers.

Visitors are advised to exercise caution when entering the installation, as the space is dark and features shifting lights. However, for many, these elements enhance the uniqueness and emotional depth of the experience.
