MUFFEST+ 2024: A RUNWAY FOR INDONESIA'S MODEST FASHION TO THE GLOBAL MARKET

The Muslim Fashion Festival (MUFFEST)+, Indonesia's largest annual modest fashion event, is set to make a significant impact in the fashion world with its theme “Flying to the Global Market.” Taking place from August 8 to 11, 2024, at Istora Senayan in Jakarta, this event will feature 175 of Indonesia's top modest fashion brands. With leading designers and industry experts in attendance, MUFFEST+ aims to showcase products and serve as a strategic platform for promoting Indonesian modest fashion globally.
This year’s theme, “Flying to the Global Market,” reflects Indonesia's ambition to become the leading center for modest fashion worldwide. According to Lenny Agustin, National Chair of the Indonesian Fashion Chamber (IFC), MUFFEST+ aims to strengthen Indonesia's position as a trendsetter in modest fashion, both locally and internationally. “MUFFEST+ is expected to play a significant role in marketing Indonesian modest fashion to the global market. As it matures, MUFFEST+ must generate excitement to expand the modest fashion industry,” Lenny stated.
Emphasizing Sustainability
A key focus of MUFFEST+ 2024 is sustainability within the fashion industry. Since 2020, the event has promoted a sustainable fashion concept that emphasizes environmentally friendly production processes alongside aesthetically pleasing end products. Indonesian modest fashion items not only adhere to international standards but also uphold high social and environmental responsibility. “MUFFEST+ introduces a fresh and youthful vibe, starting with a venue that appeals to the younger generation,” explained Irvan Mahidin, CEO of PT. Gemalindo Kreasi Indonesia.
Engaging Events and Activities
MUFFEST+ 2024 will feature an array of engaging events, including fashion shows, seminars on Fashion Trend Forecasting, talk shows, and workshops. Attendees can explore a diverse collection of modest fashion, ranging from street wear and evening wear to urban, contemporary, and syar’i styles. The trade exhibition will showcase hijabs, footwear, bags, textiles, jewelry, accessories, cosmetics, and beauty products, providing business opportunities for industry players while introducing local brands to the international market.
The Kick-off event for MUFFEST+ 2024 will include a chit-chat session with expert speakers such as Ita Rulina from Bank Indonesia and prominent designers. Additionally, a Trunk Show will highlight the work of participating designers and brands, allowing them to showcase their innovation and creativity.
Event Line Up
MUFFEST+ 2024 is set to unfold over four dynamic days, each filled with an array of fashion events. On Day 1, the event will kick off with an opening ceremony, followed by the Islamic Fashion Institute's Fashion Parade 1 and two exclusive shows, including a mini show. Day 2 will continue the excitement with Fashion Parades 2 and 3, along with Exclusive Shows 3 and 4, showcasing the latest trends in modest fashion.
As the event progresses, Day 3 will feature Fashion Parades 4 and 5, along with two more exclusive shows, offering deeper insights into the industry's innovations. Finally, Day 4 will bring the festival to a close with Fashion Parades 6 and 7, a Trend Forecasting Seminar for 2025/2026, and the final Exclusive Show 7, culminating in a grand closing ceremony that will celebrate the successes and trends unveiled throughout the event.
Collaborative Efforts
MUFFEST+ 2024 is a collaborative effort among various stakeholders, including Wardah as the Official Makeup and Skincare partner and BSI (Bank Syariah Indonesia) as the Official Bank, supported by the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia and other sponsors. “Wardah is committed to supporting the sustainability of MUFFEST+. This year, we want to emphasize that proper skincare is a crucial investment before applying makeup,” said Wahidah Oktavia, Senior Public Relations of Wardah Beauty.
Opportunities and Challenges
Despite the considerable potential for international growth in modest fashion, many industry players in Indonesia are still not prepared to enter the global market. Ita Rulina from Bank Indonesia noted that collaboration and synergy are essential for strengthening business capabilities and improving access to financing.
MUFFEST+ 2024 will serve not only as a fashion showcase but also as a platform to celebrate Indonesia's cultural richness and creativity in modest fashion. The event aims to inspire younger generations and solidify Indonesia's role as a global hub for modest fashion. With sustainability and innovation at its core, MUFFEST+ is poised to elevate Indonesian modest fashion to new heights on the world stage.
