HOTEL INDIGO LAUNCHES INNOVATIVE PROGRAM TO REVITALIZE BORROWING TRADITION

Revolutionizing stays: Hotel Indigo's Borrowed program fosters cultural immersion and community bonds

In a pioneering move, Hotel Indigo introduces the Borrowed by Hotel Indigo initiative, inviting guests to borrow various items during their stay. This groundbreaking program, part of their largest marketing campaign to date, aims to strengthen community bonds.

A global survey conducted by Hotel Indigo reveals that 73% of respondents believe it's crucial for hotels to engage with the local environment to inspire adventure and cultural exploration. From December 2023 to February 2024, Hotel Indigo will extend invitations to guests staying in cities across Southeast Asia, including Bali, Bangkok, Phuket, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur by late 2024. They can borrow unique items at their respective properties, enabling them to immerse themselves in the cultural richness of both the hotel and its surrounding community.

In Thailand, guests at Hotel Indigo Phuket Patong can engage in Muay Thai in a full-size boxing ring by borrowing boxing gloves. Meanwhile, at Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road, guests can select from three sets of items—The Picnic Set, The Explorer Set, and The Photographer Set—based on their preferences for exploring The City of Angels.

To delve into the Peranakan culture in Katong, Singapore, guests at Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong can borrow traditional Tiffin containers to enjoy Nyonya treats in their rooms. Similarly, guests at Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach can don ceremonial attire made from Balinese fabric (known as endek) or borrow a surfing rash guard as they explore the hotel's coastline. In today's social landscape, the tradition of borrowing from neighbors has waned. Hotel Indigo's recent survey indicates that interactions with neighbors have decreased, with 59% of respondents admitting to never asking to borrow from their neighbors due to reasons such as shyness, not wanting to impose, or lack of rapport. Yet, even seemingly small interactions, such as borrowing from neighbors, can cultivate happier communities (Source: Harvard Business School).

Borrowed by Hotel Indigo aims to revive the tradition of borrowing from neighbors to nurture stronger community ties. Hotel Indigo properties in the US, UK, and Australia have already begun inviting guests and local residents residing in the same postal code to borrow items. Commonly borrowed items include sugar, olive oil, salt, pepper, coffee, and tea at these locations. Research also indicates that nearly 60% of travelers are eager to sample new foods while on the go. Consequently, for guests staying at Hotel Indigo who seek unique flavors from their surroundings to take home, each hotel will also offer locally curated items, ranging from honey, hot sauce, to barbecue rubs, and seafood seasonings.
