FRENCH MUSICAL THEATER "C'EST LA VIDA" BROUGHT ENERGY TO FRANCOPHONIE WEEK 2025 IN INDONESIA

A spectacular blend of movement and emotion enchanted audiences and delivered a vibrant celebration of art and cultural connection

In March 2025, the French dance theater group Compagnie De Fakto toured multiple cities in Indonesia to celebrate Francophonie Week. From March 15 to 20, 2025, the group performed "C'est la Vida!", an electrifying and emotionally charged production that captivated audiences.

Compagnie De Fakto’s Artistic Journey in Indonesia

Founded in 2002 by Aurélien Cairo, a choreographer and director, Compagnie De Fakto was known for seamlessly blending dance and theater. Cairo, who began his artistic journey as a hip-hop dancer, collaborated with two accomplished performers for this production: Lisbeth Kiebooms from Belgium and David Walther from France.

First staged in 2022, "C'est la Vida!" was a dynamic 50-minute performance designed for audiences of all ages. Its title, a mix of French and Spanish, translated to "That's life", an expression reflecting the wisdom of embracing reality with grace.

A Tour Across Four Indonesian Cities

As part of Francophonie Week 2025, "C'est la Vida!" was staged in four Indonesian cities: Bandung, Yogyakarta, Malang, and Jakarta.

The tour kicked off on March 15, 2025, at Institut Français d’Indonésie (IFI) Bandung. On March 17, the performance was held at IFI Yogyakarta, drawing in art and French culture enthusiasts. The journey continued to Malang on March 19, where Politeknik Negeri Malang (Polinema) supported the event’s organization.

The grand finale took place at Bentara Budaya Jakarta on March 20, 2025, coinciding with International French Language Day. This performance marked the pinnacle of Francophonie Week, reinforcing the celebration of cultural exchange between Indonesia and the Francophone world.

Bridging Cultures Through Art

More than just an entertaining spectacle, "C'est la Vida!" delivered a profound message about life, diversity, and cultural connection. By merging dance, theater, and artistic expression, the performance created an unforgettable experience for its audiences.

Through Francophonie Week, cultural exchanges between Indonesia and French-speaking communities continued to flourish, paving the way for greater artistic collaborations and strengthening international ties.
