EDEN ROCK – ST BARTHS: A SUSTAINABLE HAVEN THAT CELEBRATES EARTH DAY EVERY DAY

Eden Rock - St Barths, a luxury Caribbean hotel, incorporates the essence of Earth Day into their everyday operations.

Eden Rock – St Barths, a luxury hotel nestled in the heart of the Caribbean, has embraced the spirit of Earth Day and integrated it into their daily operations.

As a member of the UN Global Compact, the hotel's owners and team members are committed to implementing various Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that positively impact the environment and the local community.

According to a spokesperson for Eden Rock, the hotel has taken significant steps to reduce its environmental footprint. "We have a total ban on single-use plastic throughout the property, and our restaurant and bar have discontinued the use of plastic straws. We also provide guests with unlimited fresh and complimentary drinking water through atmospheric water generators, and all bottled still water is now packaged exclusively in sustainable and bio-sourced Tetra Pak cartons."

The hotel has also partnered with local organizations to restore the island's coral reefs using Biorock technology, which stimulates the growth of coral reefs by passing a small electric current through a metal structure. In addition, the hotel has replaced individual-use soap, haircare, and body cream bottles with permanent dispensers for Dr. Barbara Sturm products to reduce waste.

The hotel's team members, also known as "Eden Angels," oversee these initiatives and ensure that the hotel's daily operations do not harm the local ecosystem. As the spokesperson notes, "Our continual devotion to creating a comfortable and exclusive environment for guests does not compromise the health or beauty of the delicate local ecosystem."

Eden Rock – St Barths' commitment to improving lives extends beyond environmental sustainability. The hotel donates to local sports associations to increase opportunities for the island's youth to excel both athletically and in their personal growth through team-based activities. Additionally, the hotel is sponsoring St Barths women's surf champion, Tessa Thyssen, in her training to qualify for the French national team in the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Moreover, the hotel's owners, David and Jane Matthews, have established the Michael Matthews Foundation (MMF) in tribute to their late son Michael, who died while descending the summit of Mount Everest. The foundation supports the education of children in Nepal and Tanzania through its better schooling program, impacting the lives of 5,000 students through the building of schools locally or the improvement of existing educational systems and facilities.

"We are motivated by a common cause to improve the lives of young people, both locally and in some of the world's most remote areas," says the spokesperson. "Through our sustainable and socially responsible initiatives, we hope to pave the way for a positive future for all."
